Northport Students Are Taking Control

Robotics students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM class created their first remote controlled robots this week. Students designed, built and coded robots to navigate an obstacle course in the robotics arena. Groups raced to navigate the course in the fastest time. These students recently took a break from robotics to complete an industry certification course in Artificial Intelligence. St. Lucie Public Schools is thrilled to announce that enrollment for Legacy High School, the newest high school on the Treasure Coast, is now open to all students, regardless of their zone or county. On Saturday, March 1st, 2025, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Drill Team competed in its AREA 3 Regional Drill Meet hosted at our school, Port St. Lucie High School. Savanna Ridge Elementary’s 3rd grade math teacher, Mrs. Sanchez, took her classes outdoors to enjoy a beautiful day, while working on a math measurement lesson. Mrs. Sanchez and Mrs. Joseph facilitated the lesson, while students worked together gathering data and analyzing their results. Mrs. Jason’s 8th grade students engaged in a friendly competition with their peers for their IXL performance. All students are provided an opportunity to complete IXL lessons in their Language Arts class. Our 8th grade Social Studies teachers support our ELA classes by providing additional time for students to engage in IXL lessons for ELA. Ms. Jason’s 3rd period class won the IXL challenge. Students from Mrs. Applebee’s Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program at Fort Pierce Central High School recently participated in a training day with the St. Lucie County Fire Department. On Tuesday 2/25, Mrs. Natta, 8th grade school counselor, was interviewed by the Treasure Coast Food Bank regarding the success of the Dan McCarty Food and Teen Pantry. In October of 2023, a student inspired Mrs. Natta and the school counseling department to start a food and teen pantry to help all our students and their families. The DMMS food pantry provides food like rice, canned goods, pasta, and chicken to our families, while the teen pantry provides items like soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste. Our 3rd-grade scholars in Mrs. Forrester’s class just proved that hard work pays off! They achieved proficiency on their Unit 4 district math test, and we’re celebrating their success with a well-earned treat—Freeze Pops!
