Oak Hammock K-8 Traditional and MySchool second grade classes had lots of fun exploring the different biomes. Jambo!  While learning about the continent of Africa, students in Mrs. Eibl’s class chose a country, researched information about its culture and animals, created a project, and presented their findings to classmates.  Where will they go next?  Only time will tell!

As part of their science curriculum, students in Bethany DiTullio’s fourth grade class at Allapattah Flats K8 recently studied physical and chemical changes of matter. As a culminating activity, the students performed four different experiments using baking soda and vinegar, salt and water, glow sticks, and crumbling paper. Students then decided whether a physical or chemical change occurred in each experiment based on their observations and knowledge. Students filled out their lab sheets with hypotheses, observations, and data as they went. Westwood’s AICE Marine Science 1 classes at MOA participated in a visible light experiment in the Ocean Lab at Harbor Branch. Students were able to get a clear understanding of how visible light was affected when traveling through the different depths of oceanic water. Through this fun and hands on lab experience, students were able to explain which colors would be most effective at camouflaging oceanic organisms at different depths of the ocean. They were able to walk out from the activity explaining why most marine deep sea organisms do not have traditional color vision.

Students in the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University program are spacing out in unexpected ways!  Fort Pierce Central is one of 12 high schools across Florida chosen to participate in the initiative.  The students’ objectives are to fully check out the drone operating program and make necessary adjustments before launch.  Students are seen assembling drones in support of ERAU’s new Flight Test Engineering Program. In addition, students shared a zoom call briefing on space flight with Dr. Jose Nunez,  Chief of Research and Technology at NASA.

Wonderful job to the Northstar STEaM students, their instructor, Christine Nurse, and ESE Chairpersons Sherri Yacovino and De Green for their great work with our ESE students. The excitement was palpable as students learned new and exciting hands-on information. Northstars STEaM Team students provided a laser and photonics hands-on lab for our wonderful exceptional students. The students designed and created an authentic triangulated laser and photonics security system.

At Lincoln Park Academy, students of NJHS eagerly gathered for a special presentation by St. Lucie County Sheriffs on drug prevention. Officers spoke about the dangers of drugs and the importance of positive choices. The highlight was the K-9 demonstration, showcasing dogs’ skills in detecting drugs, apprehending suspects, and obedience commands. Students gained insights into law enforcement’s role in community safety, leaving them inspired to make healthy choices and be positive in! 🚓🐾 #NJHS #CommunityEducation

Hobe Sound Nature Center visited the fourth graders at Mariposa Elementary. The center brought an owl for students to study and look at the world of raptors, while examining closely the adaptions of owls. Mrs. Jennifer Scipioni’s students learned about these adaptations through a hands-on activity investigating owl pellets. During this exciting lab activity, the students learned about food chains, ecology, and natural history. The lab activity produced small skeleton parts from rodents, birds, and more. The fourth graders were very excited to be able to take home these discoveries!

Our early childhood education students have been diving into the Baby Think It Over program, and it’s been a whirlwind of fun and learning! Imagine taking home a baby for a night—what an adventure! Students have described it as an “eye-opening experience,” and it’s easy to see why. Not only do they get hands-on practice with baby care (hello, midnight feedings!), but they also sharpen their life budgeting skills. It’s like a crash course in real-life adulting, all wrapped up in one adorable package! Who knew learning could be this much fun?

Eleven concert bands from throughout St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) participated in the District 13 Concert Band Music Performance Assessments (MPAs) this past weekend. At this assessment, the ensembles perform on Stage 3 prepared numbers for three judges.  One selection must be a march.  Students leave the stage and go into the Sight Reading room.  They are handed a booklet that resembles the booklet that students receive when taking FSAs.  They are directed to different passages in the booklet.  The director is allotted a small amount of time to give brief directions, and the bands are then expected to “sight read” … Read More

The Treasure Coast High School Dance Repertory Company is an advanced ensemble of dedicated dancers who represent the highest level of artistry, discipline, and creativity within the TCHS Dance Department. This past week, they performed ballet and jazz assessment material for the October SLPS School Board Meeting. It has been a busy 3rd Quarter for Cobra Battalion at Fort Pierce Central High School, and our Cadets continue to demonstrate excellence across multiple areas of leadership, academics, and competition. Most notably, the battalion achieved an outstanding 99% on their JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA) inspection, receiving JROTC’s highest honor of ” Honor Unit w/ Distinction”, highlighting the cadets’ commitment to maintaining one of the top JROTC programs in the region.
