Finalists named for St. Lucie’s Teacher of the Year

A contingency of St. Lucie County School Board members, Superintendent Michael Lannon, district administrators and executives of the St. Lucie County Education Foundation surprised three finalists for the school district’s 2014 Teacher of the Year honor at their school sites Thursday, January 24. The finalists were selected from nominees from the school district’s 39 traditional schools. Finalist for Take Stock in Children’s Leaders 4 Life (L4L) Fellowship Program Announced

In a surprise announcement today, Aneesa Dial of Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Marine and Oceanographic Academy (MOA), learned that she is one of 14 finalists for the Take Stock in Children’s Leaders 4 Life (L4L) Fellowship Program. This is a prestigious statewide fellowship which is designed to provide highly motivated Take Stock in Children scholars who have demonstrated strong leadership skills, moral character, and academic success with the financial resources, services, and support needed to ensure student success throughout college. Six students will become “fellows” as winners of the L4L Fellowship. Fellows will be announced in January 2016. Congratulations, Aneesa!!!

Filling Empty Bowls in Our Community

On Saturday, March 8th, Fort Pierce Central Cobras proudly volunteered at the 17th annual Empty Bowls event benefiting the Treasure Coast Food Bank. The Empty Bowls project is a national campaign to fight hunger and end food insecurity in communities. The Empty Bowl is a symbol representing that one in four children in America still doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from. Patrons pick out a handmade or wheel-thrown bowl for $25 and get a to-go bowl of yummy soup donated by local restaurants. The potters from Indian River Clay also donated silent auction artworks. 5th Grade teachers were excited to see their students recently as they returned laptops and picked up their belongings. We are proud of our students and all of their hard work and we wish them the best as they move up to middle school.

Fifth-Grade Writing is Colorful at Morningside Elementary

Fabulous fifth-grade teachers at Morningside collaboratively plan to engage students in the process of writing. Last week, students used color coding to write argumentative essays about whether zoos should exist. They analyzed different viewpoints and then wrote in order to express their viewpoints using evidence to back up their claims. Next, they were able to read their finished products with their buddy class. Learning sure is colorful at Morningside Elementary.

Fifth grade students at St. Lucie Elementary work on science experiment data

Fifth Grade Morningside Students Ready for Testing

Morningside fifth graders participated in a fun-filled, yet educational pep rally under the direction of Deb Hitsman, our guidance counselor.  They ran relays, tried to keep that hula hoop going, and dug in sand to find answers to questions about Math.    

Fifth-grade Dolphins Go Seining

Floresta’s fifth-grade dolphins had a fin-tastic time at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.  Students were fascinated while seining along the Indian River Lagoon exploring marine life up close.

Field Day Fun at Lawnwood Elementary School

K-5 Students enjoyed Field Day Activities.  Field day is the perfect opportunity for students to use the skills they have learned during physical education.  Students enjoyed the friendly competition as they were encouraged to put forth their best effort and work as a team.  A special thank you goes out to Coach Paul, Coach Fredryk, and Mr. Ortiz for coordinating our 2024 Field Day Events.  GO LEOPARDS!

PBIS Basketball Event

FGMS Welcomes Westwood Academy for PBIS Pep Rally Event

Over 500 Forest Grove students attended a PBiS Pep Rally and Assembly to celebrate their positive behavior! Over 700 students on our campus have not received a discipline referral this school year!!! We were excited to welcome the Westwood Academy basketball team, cheerleaders, marching band, and dance team to celebrate our wonderful students! The exhibition game, cheers, music, and dance routines were enjoyed by all! It was great to see so many returning Bulldogs that are now proud Panthers! FGMS Wax Museum for Black History Month

Forest Grove Middle School students participated in their annual Black History Wax Museum. They showed their creative personalities as they studied and highlighted important contributions made to our country by the influential Black Americans they represented. Students created a visual display, dressed as their characters, and gave speeches highlighting their achievements.   

FGMS Visits Medieval Times

Forest Grove Middle School students recently traveled to Medieval Times in Kissimmee, FL for a day of information, entertainment and lunch. Students viewed medieval artifacts and then watched medieval games, sword-fighting, and jousting while feasting on a hearty lunch. Shown in the photo are participants from FGMS.

FGMS: The Sky’s the Limit-Shopping Spree

Mrs. Proctor’s class went on a shopping spree! Students were working on being able to analyze and use proportional relationships when problem-solving. Students looked up an item on sale, a sporting goods item, and a game/toy to purchase. Students had to choose which coupon they wanted to use for each item, making sure to get the biggest discount possible. Then, students had to calculate how much they would have to pay to purchase their item once the coupon amount was discounted! The sky was the limit, students were buying cars, houses, pools, yachts and so much more.  

FGMS Students Visit History Museum

On Wednesday, November 15th, sixth grade world history students stepped back in time by taking a field trip to the St. Lucie Regional History Center. Students were excited to be joined by the new FGMS principal for the 2017-2018 school year, Mrs. Monarae Miller-Buchanan, and many staff members. All enjoyed seeing and hearing about the early Ais Indians, the later Seminole Tribe, artifacts and displays from the fishing industry, commerce and the furnished Gardner House. Many thanks to the St. Lucie Historical Society and to Nancy, employees, and volunteer staff at the museum.    

FGMS Students Participate in the History Fair

We are so proud of all of our Bulldogs who represented Forest Grove at the St. Lucie Public Schools National History Fair this year. These students put a lot of hard work into their History Day projects and their work paid off. FGMS Students Enjoy Kona Ice on a Warm Early Release Day

Our Bulldogs were able to enjoy refreshing Kona Ice on a warm, sunny, early release Wednesday!! Our early release events encourage high attendance on early release days and gives our students the opportunity to end the day with a sweet treat!
