Ms. Chappelle’s Spanish class prepared for their weather and being outside unit. Students went outside to compete to see who could find and translate the most nature/outside-related terms from English to Spanish.
Ms. Adderley’s 8th Grade Critical Thinking Class participated in a Gallery Walk to identify and justify Ethos Pathos and Logos. Our critical thinking classes support Reading/ELA standards and provide students with multiple opportunities to develop and strengthen academic vocabulary.
Mrs. Quiambao’s students reviewed for their unit exam through a variety of table sorts which asked the students to do a variety of skills such as identifying the historical document, a preamble scramble, the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation, the main ideas of the content by completing an info-graph, and vocabulary matching words, terms and images.
At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Proctors’ students loved reviewing through an escape room!!! They had so much fun reviewing MA.6.NSO.3.3 in preparation for MA.6.AR.1.3. Students were able to show their skills with order of operation to solve numerical expressions while trying to escape!
Mrs. Proctors 7th grade students are playing a game called “Capture the Flag,” to review for their Unit 1 assessment on Solving problems involving rational numbers and the four operations! Working in groups students must answer a certain amount of questions and show the teacher; once all questions for that section are correct, they get to steal a flag (colored sticky note) from another table. The students had so much fun and loved playing the game!
At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Proctor’s Math class was reviewing their learning goal- students will solve problems involving rational numbers and the four operations. “We are specifically working on the standard that students will add/subtract rational numbers with procedural fluency! Students are playing the head bands game in a new, cool way. Students must walk around the room, find a partner and pair up. Each person solves the other persons problem on their sheet of paper, they compare answers to see if they got it right or not. If an answer is wrong, they explain why and rework the … Read More
At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Brick’s sixth-grade students are finding the average speed of a marble as it rolls from different levels of height while measuring the distance each marble has traveled. Once they collect all of their data they will graph it and analyze their findings.
Mrs. Brick’s 6th Grade class was calculating GPE in their class. This means that our 6th grade students are utilizing algebraic skills in science class. Gravitational potential energy. m x g x h= gpe m = mass in kg. g = 9.8mls2. h = height in meters SC.6.P.11.1: Explore the Law of Conservation of Energy by differentiating between potential and kinetic energy. Identify situations where kinetic energy is transformed into potential energy and vice versa. Big Idea: Energy Transfer and Transformations -A. Waves involve a transfer of energy without a transfer of matter. B. Water and sound waves transfer energy through … Read More
Several weeks ago Forest Grove Middle School geometry students went on an amazing field trip. Below is Mr. Parkinson’s summary of this project and field trip. Students in the Forest Grove MOA program were invited to attend and deliver the Pledge of Allegiance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the McCarty Ranch Extension Water Quality Project on Tuesday, December 11, 2017. This extension will prevent nearly nine billion gallons of water from entering our local waterways, resulting in a reduction of excess freshwater discharge. This project will directly impact the waterways that MOA students are focusing on for their Samsung #solvefortomorrow project. #saveourlagoon
Forest Grove Middle School’s Marine Oceanographic Academy Prep program welcomed an ORCA guest speaker. Students learned and discussed information about data collection for A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon.
Our MOA 6th graders had an awesome day getting their feet wet and searching the skies for birds that frequent our local ecosystem. Their findings help them to better understand our local waterways and how the animals coexist in the habitat. Our future environmentalists are hard at work! Way to go Bulldogs!
