First Grade Poetry Café at Mariposa Elementary!

First grade had a Poetry Café! Each student in the class was able to get on stage and read aloud a poem of their choosing. We were lucky enough to have so many wonderful spectators observe all our hard work. Thank you to all that came to share in our special moments!

First Grade Pen Pals at Westgate

Ms. Jessica Berggren’s first grade class is participating in an alphabet exchange with 25 schools from around the country. The class was given the letter E. They read the book Elmer. Then they decorated the letter E to look like Elmer the elephant. The letters were mailed to other  schools and  the class has received a few returned letters already. The students can’t wait to receive even more “letters” from all around the country.

First Grade MSE Students Soar into Exciting Ocean Discoveries

First graders at MSE  had an amazing time at the Florida Oceanographic Society Center! They explored the fascinating world of marine life, learning about sea turtles, shark habitats, and the rich ecosystems of the ocean. The highlight of their visit was the touch tank, where students had the chance to interact with stingrays and other marine animals, creating unforgettable hands-on experiences. First Grade Centers at Mariposa Elementary

At Mariposa Elementary, Mrs. Linda Auciello’s 1st grade students Abigail Negron, Sophia Manson and Rashard Alston are busy working on their “listen to read” reading center. Reading center rotations are practiced to ensure students stay engaged and gain a variety of different learning opportunities within their classroom.

First grade Allapattah Flats students reflect on a special moment

As more holidays approach, first graders in Ann Hartman’s and Pamela Owens’ classes reflect back on a special event they enjoyed at Thanksgiving. Last month first graders recited poetry, shared what they were thankful for, and had a fantastic Thanksgiving Feast with their friends and family.  First graders and their parents enjoying the delicious feast, from left, are Jaydin Torello, Vera Horowtitz, Samantha Roeder, Mia Horowitz, and Jason Horowitz.   Parents had a wonderful time hearing what their students are thankful for, and enjoying a fabulous meal!

First Grade Acaletics at Lakewood Park

Each day, through Acaletics, first-grade teachers at Lakewood Park introduce and expose students to a variety of math concepts. Sometimes students see a concept for the first time and use mathematical thinking and reasoning to solve it.  Other times, students revisit a previously taught skill and are tasked with choosing their own strategy to solve. Students are truly excited to solve each problem while building math fluency. Students are given an opportunity to talk about their thinking and strategies with their peers. St. Lucie’s first French Honor Society chapter inducted at Fort Pierce Central High

Members of the inaugural chapter of the National French Honor Society in any St. Lucie County public school were inducted recently at Fort Pierce Central High School. Some 13 students with an unweighted GPA of a 3.5 or higher, and enrolled in French III, IV or Advanced Placement, earned the distinction.  Pictured with induction plaques, front row from left, are Schnineline Orelien, Franklin Sanchez, Charline Charlestin, Sarah Jean-Mary, Michael Alexander, Darron Irving, Ameline Limorin, Isabel Lezama, Patrice Bennett and Nancy Luxama. First Day of School!

SLPS had a great first day of school! Superintendent Dr. Jon R. Students, staff, parents, and community members welcomed the first day of school with celebrations and affirmations of success.  Recognizing the great strides made in 2016-2017 serve as a catalyst for continuing the forward momentum this school year.   Points of Pride B-Rated School District Soared To 13th From 45th In State Graduation Ranking Improved In 10 Of 11 School Grade Components Leaped To 32nd From 45th In Total District Points Ranking Grew To 626 Points From 573 Points (+53) No Failing Schools          

First Cohort of Take 5! Trainers

  Congratulations to SLPS’ first cohort of Take 5! Trainers. Twenty sites across the district will be able to offer the Take 5! training to their teachers and staff. Take 5! focuses on competency building for long term personal and professional impact by providing a safe space for adults to connect with one another, identify their own personal needs, and develop the skills and mindset to foster their personal growth. First Citizen of the Month Celebrated at Palm Pointe

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently celebrated their first Citizen of the Month awards. These students go above and beyond the expectations of the classroom and school. First Beta Chapter at Palm Pointe

Fourth and Fifth grade students from Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition were recognized as the first Beta Chapter.  Beta stands for promoting the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership.  Students collected many items throughout the school year and donated them to several different charities. These students work hard each and every day and are leaders in the school. FIRST ALERT Weather with Village Green

Meteorologist Vanessa Vinet from WPBF Channel 25 brought weather lessons to life for 5th graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School. First Alert Weather Classes provide students with an opportunity to interact with local meteorologists, learning more about weather systems and how these professionals use science to predict the weather. First Alert Weather Team Visits FPMSA

FPMSA Students Receive a Special Visit From the First Alert Weather Team The WPBF First Alert Weather Class brings a storm of excitement to Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts as the team of professional meteorologists teach 3rd graders about weather systems. Meteorologists Vanessa Vincent and Taylor Grenda were on site for the day’s lesson.

Fire Safety at Village Green Elementary

Students at Village Green Elementary School were able to enjoy guest speaker, Stacey Carter, a Fire and Life Safety Educator from the St. Lucie County Fire District this week during their resource time. Stacey spoke to the students about the importance of having a working smoke alarm in their homes. She also discussed how each student should make a home fire escape plan with their families. Fire Department Visits CAST

Kindergarten, first, and second-grade students learned all about fire safety, and they also learned about our firefighter friends from St. Lucie County’s Engine 15! Students now know how to check smoke detectors, how to make a fire escape plan, and how to call 9-1-1! Thank you for keeping us safe! 

Finish Your Degree at IRSC

It’s time to finish your degree at Indian River State College (IRSC)! Complete Florida, founded by the Florida Legislature in 2013, is offering scholarships for Florida residents who never completed a Bachelor’s degree and are returning to earn select Associate and Baccalaureate degrees in business, healthcare, information technology, education, criminal justice and public administration—all of which are offered online at IRSC. Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis. Award amounts vary by the number of college credits earned. St. Lucie Public Schools has an easy to use tool for parents to find bus stop locations and pick up times for their students.   Please visit the school district webpage http://www.stlucieschools.org then click on the “Find my bus Route” graphic on the upper right-hand side of the page.  This link will take parents to the Transportation website, where you can register your student for bus service and find the pick up times and locations.
