Manatee Academy Partners with Red Cross for “Pillowcase Project”

Manatee Academy was fortunate to have the dynamic Patty Mayer from our local Red Cross speak to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes.  Debbie Remington,  Manatee’s media specialist organized the event. The Pillowcase Project is a preparedness education program for children in grades 3 – 5 which teaches students about personal and family preparedness, local hazards, and basic coping skills. Generally given as a 40-minute presentation by Red Cross volunteers, the program leads students through a “learn, practice, share” framework to engage them in disaster preparedness. Jaguars Take Home the Win

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Raider team competed in Fort Pierce Westwood’s Raider Competition against 17 teams from 7 other schools. The competition consisted of six events: 3 mile team run, Cross Country Rescue, The Raider Fitness Challenge, 200lb tire flip over a 100-meter course, an obstacle course and the One-Rope Bridge event. Before the Cross Country Rescue, everyone takes a written first aid test, during the event the team simulates a casualty by carrying an 80-120lb stretcher over a mile long course while wearing three 30lb ruck sacks. Manatee Academy Helps “Save the Chimps”

Manatee Academy’s Pre-Vet class organized a fantastic school-wide collection program this year for “Save the Chimps,” a local animal sanctuary that cares for about 300 rescued chimpanzees. Students donated over 535 items to this local organization. The goal of the non-profit animal sanctuary is to provide endangered chimpanzees a private, comfortable existence in an environment which simulates a natural habitat as closely as possible. Every chimp costs $16,000 per year to support, and chimps live to an old age of 80 years on average. The month of October has been designated “Bullying Prevention Month” and is recognized by Northport K-8 School as well as Saint Lucie Public Schools.  Northport is thrilled to take part in such an important and vital issue. Spirit of St. Lucie Community Impact Award

St. Lucie Public Schools is honored to have been named as the recipient of this year’s United Way “Spirit of St. Lucie Community Impact Award.” This award is conferred annually on an organization that demonstrates outstanding contributions within St. Lucie County to one or more of the United Way core impact areas of focus that include Health, Education, and Income.

SGA Parent Night

On Thursday evening, SGA parents attended the “A Day in the Life of an SGA Scholar” Parent Night. Parents began their journey in the audeteria where they learned about the Title I program.  Also, they were excited about the announcement of the principal’s reading challenge. When the SGA students reach 250,000,000 reading steps, Ms. Wilke will do a cheer leading routine. After the initial session, parents made their way to their student’s pod to experience what their scholar does during their academic day.  Students were excited to showcase their work.  

Morningside Creates Art to Remember

Morningside students are creating a picture of “the Future” to help remember their past. Parents will be able to view and create gifts, stamps, and other items with their child’s art work.

Dads Take Your Child To School Day was a huge success at Gaines Academy. Fathers and other male role models streamed into Gaines Academy on Wednesday morning. They were treated to donuts and an inspirational message followed by smiles and laughter as they created a vision board with their child. Before leaving, the men signed the pledge to support and encourage their children’s success in school.    

Manatee Academy Prepares for Book Fair

“Recycled MONSTERS were the theme at Manatee Academy in preparation for the upcoming MONSTER Book Fair next week.  Students also had to Guess How Many Eyeballs in a fish tank to get a free Book Fair book.  A MONSTER PUMPKIN contest and Door Decorating contest enabled teachers to join the fun and earn gift certificates worth $50.00 and $100.00 respectively in Book Fair goodies! A THRILLER Flash Mob is planned for FREAKY FAMILY Book Fair Night!

Northport Middle Grades Students Hold Funeral for “Dead” Words!

Northport middle grades students in Tracy Lejeune, Susan Matteson and Susan Smith’s classes participated in an activity filled with dark humor by attending a funeral in the school’s media center for “Dead” words. White City Elementary 3rd Grade Class Celebrates

Miss Dewey’s classroom won a grant for Reflex Math Fact Fluency program.  The students have been using the program now for a week and are so eager for math time.  Reflex is game-based and highly motivational so students enjoy the learning process.  Reflex helps students of all ability levels to develop fluency with their basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Northport Students Welcome “Joe the Biker” and His Message of Empowerment!

Northport K-8 middle grades students from the Sharks, Dolphins, Stingrays, and Mariner teams and their teachers met in the Northport Media Center recently for an important program. Students welcomed a local man with a very powerful message and a story that students can relate to in some way about bullying and coming together as a community to stop the vicious cycle of bullying.
