Manatee Vet Prep Students Partner with Westwood’s Veterinary Assisting Academy

Manatee Academy Vet Prep eighth graders and several of their parents visited Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Veterinary Assisting Academy to tour the available programs offered through the Career and Technical Education Department. Middle school students studying animal science learned about the many benefits the attractor program has to offer. Seniors in the program guided them through several hands-on experiences that they could expect as students, such as proper dog restraints, dog grooming and the many college/career opportunities available through FFA. Northport Rallies For Fifth Annual “Unity Day!”

Every year for the last five years, Northport has united for a huge campaign to stamp out bullying. The students have listened to not only “Joe the Biker” speak, but dozens of other speakers whose message has been one of nonviolence, empowerment and anti-bullying. Students have made thousands of posters, worn orange for anti-bullying and red for drug awareness. Building Tolerance Contest at Palm Pointe

October is Bully Prevention Month and Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition had some exciting things planned in order to continue to create a safe and caring school environment free from bullying and exclusion. One way to increase tolerance at the school was to have students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade create anti-bullying posters about Building Tolerance and students in grades six through eight write essays with the same topic. A Hero Gets a Home

Port Saint Lucie High School cadets were honored to provide a saber guard when Army Specialist Gonzalez and his family were awarded with their new home. Army Specialist Gonzalez, a Port Saint Lucie veteran, lost his sight and suffered severe brain injuries in an IED explosion in 2004. The home was designed for his loss of sight with handrails and textured floors. NASA visits Gaines Academy

On Friday, October 23rd, NASA Engineer George “Gabe” Gabrielle, came to Samuel Gaines Academy to speak with our students about space travel.  He taught Mr. Davino’s AVID classes about the NASA facilities, preparing them for their upcoming 8th grade field trip to Kennedy Space Center in November.  Mr. Gabrielle also had a chance to speak with the students in SGA’s 21st Century Program. Both groups enjoyed the presentation and had many questions for him about the wonders of space travel.

SLWK-8 Students Participate in Future Chef Competition

On Saturday, October 24,  SLWK8 students competed as a team in the Future Chef Competition held in Ft. Pierce at the Green Market. Students competed against the local high schools and one other K-8 school in this event.   The Shark Chef Team (Casie Schulz,  Laravanessa Cano and Gabriella Quimby) showed well with their appetizer of Savory Shrimp Persimmon and Plum Skewers over Orange Ginger Jasmine Rice and served an entree of Banh Mi with Watermelon Salad.  The judges particularly enjoyed that many flavors from the market were showcased and added that our chefs exhibited outstanding culinary skills.       … Read More

Palm Pointe Counselor Presents at Conference

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s  Elementary School Counselor, Summer Kuba  attended the Florida School Counselor Association Conference  and presented to school counselors around the state on best practices for implementing classroom guidance lessons, small group and individual counseling.  Her presentations included a focus on student anxiety, engaging students through interactive lessons, advocacy efforts, and elementary counseling techniques.

F. K. Sweet Second Graders Learn about Native Americans

In Mrs. Kasey Ascani’s second grade class, students have been participating in a unit about “Who We Are As Americans.”  Students have learned about Native Americans and their contributions to our nation. In this activity, the class had to write three facts about Native Americans on each of their feathers and glue them to a head band they designed with symbols from that time period. F. K. Sweet First Graders Take a Science Autumn Walk

Autumn Walk Mrs. Glenda Taylor’s first grade class took an autumn walk around the field behind our school.  Students used their five senses as tools to make careful observations. The students made records about the investigation.  Each child wrote the name of things he or she could see, hear, smell and touch.  Later, everyone tasted grapes and apple slices in our classroom. Pictured left to right are: Asheline Syril, Holly Howard, Uriah Morris, Jamael Gardner and Rihana Salel.
