Oak Hammock K-8 School Promotes Bullying Prevention with a Bulletin Board Decorating Contest! October was National Bullying Prevention Month. To celebrate, each elementary grade group and middle school team at Oak Hammock K-8 School participated in a bulletin board decorating contest with a theme of Bullying Prevention. Bring on the Fall FUN! From games to a photo booth, Lakewood Park had a blast at this year’s Fall Festival and Literacy Night. Thank you to PTO, teachers, staff, and all the volunteers who helped to make this event a HUGE success.

On Saturday, November 19th at Fort Pierce Central High School, Garber Buick GMC will help donate dollars to education — up to $10,000.  It is all part of the Test Drive Event that generates $10 for each 2 – 3 minute test drive.  When the event exceeds 100 drives, Buick will double the donation to $20 per test drive.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Mariposa Elementary are celebrated at monthly PBIS Brag Bracelet ceremonies for adhering to the school I CAN expectations, Act Responsible, Be Respectful, Create Safety, and Doing Their Best. They each receive a bracelet stating their accomplishment as well as a delicious chocolate chip cookie and juice! Keegan Blaska, a 4th grader at Mariposa Elementary, has continuously gone above and beyond the school’s  I CAN expectations. Village Green Environmental Studies School hosted student led conferences on Friday, October 28, 2016.  Students shared their growth during quarter one, set goals for the upcoming term, and planted a sunflower to signify future growth.  Village Green administration sincerely thanks the many community members who helped to ensure EVERY student was able to share with a caring adult.

Students at Floresta Elementary participated in a mock election in their technology class. They voted on President and Senator. They were very pleased with themselves and were proud to display their “I Voted” stickers!

Reality Store SM 2016 – Designed to help students get a better understanding of what it takes to survive in “real life.” The students start the day with a set income (correlated to students’ GPA’s) and family members. Students visit various stations throughout the activity. They take responsibility of being head of the household. They pay taxes, pay rent or make house payments, buy clothes, food, take care of medical expenses, daycare, and all other daily expenses incurred once entering the work force. Each year, the Northport community comes together to support our anti-bullying message. We all wear orange and students and parents walk with their classes on a designated route around the campus. Students carry handmade signs, banners and posters. Special thanks to all who worked so hard to make sure that bullying is not prevalent at NPK8. Representative Larry Lee took part in the Fort Pierce Westwood Speakers Bureau presentation this past Wednesday, October 26, 2016. After being introduced by Board Member Dr. Donna Mills, Representative Lee spoke to the crowded auditorium that was full of freshman students. FGMS MOA students engineered a life size orca whale 25 feet long x 11 feet tall and put it on display at the IRL Science Festival in Ft. Pierce on Saturday, October 22.  With the help of their teachers Ms. Cole and Mr. Stinnette, students in grades 6-8 and their parents spent 30 hours after school creating the whale out of plastic sheeting and Duck brand duct tape.  Students began by cutting a rectangular sheet of plastic into shape and taped it together. Students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently participated in a school wide P.B.I.S. (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) fundraising event.  Students were able to come outside by grade level and participate in Olympic type games.  There were different areas set up with an obstacle course, football toss and field goal kick, soccer, kickball, basketball, flag football and a dance area.  The students went around to each area during the hour.  At the end of the event, all students received a snack, drink, and small trinket with the United States red, white and blue theme.  It was a … Read More

Melody Hearn of the Family Care Council presented information to our Morningside Elementary students on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.  She discussed the challenges and daily struggles of children and adults with Down Syndrome.  To help educate the students, Melody had some hands-on demonstrations to show them how difficult it is to talk, play, write, and do everyday tasks.  The students benefited from the engaging presentation and had a much better understanding of disabilities by the end of the program!  

Several schools competed in this meet from all over Florida (29 teams in total and 10 schools). The competition consisted of five different events including 3-mile team run; tire flip; Raider fitness challenge whereby the teams moved through a course consisting of a 10-yard low crawl, a 40 yard 20-30lb sandbag carry, an obstacle to either go over or under, a speed agility maze, a 120lb object carried 50 feet, and a turnaround point to repeat the course in reverse; rope bridge; and cross country rescue including a litter carry of 110 lbs. A fourth grade student at Mariposa Elementray, Mateo Villegas, was celebrated for receiving a perfect score on his 3rd grade math FSA test. Mr. Logue and all of the administration and staff at Mariposa are extremely proud of his accomplishment!

Lincoln Park Academy’s Class of 2018 is committed to graduating! On October 26th, LPA juniors participated in their annual C2G ceremony to reaffirm their commitment to graduation. All 218 students shook principal Henry Sanabria’s hand to show their commitment to working hard, coming to school everyday, and finishing high school strong. Students also received a keychain tassel to remind them that “the tassel is worth the hassle!”              

Samuel Gaines Academy had the honor, once again, of hosting the Speakers Bureau with Dr. Donna Mills. During the month of October,  Samuel Gaines students were inspired by Dr. Mills and their very own Dean Gerard Burns who shared their story and struggles as they prepared to achieve their goals in life.
