A father who actively participates in the educational and social-emotional developmental life of a child is invaluable and irreplaceable. Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition held their very own Million Father March on October 7, 2014 to recognize all male role models. The event consisted of these men signing a pledge, being pinned by our staff and participating in a march, with their children, around the perimeter of Palm Pointe. Million Father March at Gaines Academy

Samuel Gaines Academy K-8 celebrated fatherhood and the impact they have on their child’s education. This event was a huge success led by Robert Plowden and Duane Turner. SGA thanks Denise Sirmons Kid at Hope advocate, Avid Team, Project Success, Parent Academy, and the PTO. Kudos to our media specialist and clerk for taking pictures of our 50 participants. SGA faculty and staff prepared a wonderful breakfast for fathers. The fathers pledged to be active participants in their student’s lives. This event truly show’s that our fathers believe in Gains at Gaines.

October 7, 2014, Weatherbee Elementary asked significant male caregivers to step up and take an active role in the lives of their children.  Fathers, grandfathers, uncles and cousins came to join their children for breakfast and to sign a pledge that they would actively participate in the educational and social-emotional development of their child. Million Dad March Northport Style!

Northport K-8 School participated in the Saint Lucie County School Board initiative, “Million Father March” recently. Principal, Glenn Rustay and assistant principals, Lorie Monroe and Brooke Wigginton as well as many teachers and staff, welcomed the dads and their children at the parent drop off sites with many waves and smiles. Dads were welcomed with their children in the Media Center by the principal, PTO president, Marcy Waltz and center staff with coffee, juice and snacks. Military Career Exploration at LPA

Lincoln Park school counselor, Aixa Jamison, spearheaded a military exploration day!  Students in the high school section of Lincoln Park Academy had the chance to explore the various career opportunities the military branches have to offer.  Recruiters were able to conduct classroom visits to educate our students on the multitude of professions one can pursue.  The interactive sessions left all seeking more information on the military branches and their high academic service academies.

Military Ball

On Saturday February 2nd, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion attended its 25th Annual Military Ball at the Santa Lucia River Club. Male Cadets wore their Dress Cadet Formal uniform, and female cadets came in formal gowns. Our Jaguar Battalion Color Guard posted the colors to begin the formal portion of the ceremony. Commanding the color guard was Cadet Sergeant First Class Lawrence Moleon-Matthews, accompanied by Cadet Sergeant Shane Canady as State Flag Bearer, Cadet Sergeant James Mikovsky as National Guard, and Cadet Corporal Alex Nangle as State Guard. Migrant Education End-of-Year Parent Meeting

The end-of-year parent meeting for the District’s Migrant Education Program was a wonderful collaboration of people and organizations. Elks Lodge #1520 donated 30 crock pots and surprised migrant students and parents with crock pots and groceries to take home. Parents also enjoyed learning about a variety of topics including: Parent Skyward Training (Facilitators: Jim Dunn and Pedro Balderas, ITS) Online 2019-20 School Registration (Facilitator: Angie Moreno, Student Assignment) ESE Services (Facilitator: Angie Moore, ESE) Farmworker Career Program (Facilitator: Betty Guerrero, IRSC) Health Services for Migrants (Facilitator: Eva Garcia, Florida Community Health Centers)

MIDFLORIDA Gift of Reading

MIDFLORIDA Community Credit Union is hosting the Gift of Reading program throughout Kindergarten classrooms and elementary media centers. Every Kindergarten student and teacher will receive a copy of the book Picture book by Dog written by Michael Relth and a bookmark. If their parents open a youth savings account, MIDFLORIDA will deposit the first $5. The savings account is paying 1% interest on the first $5000 in deposits.  

Midflorida Bank Visits Fairlawn Elementary

Midflorida Bank recently demonstrated its commitment to community engagement and literacy by organizing a special reading event at Fairlawn Elementary School. The bank’s representative, Lisa Thomas, visited the kindergarten classes to read the charming children’s book, “Parker’s Place.” This initiative was not just about storytelling; it was a thoughtful effort to inspire young minds and foster a love of reading. Middle School Zero Robotics Challenge

St. Lucie County middle school students from Southern Oaks and their teachers were recognized for achieving first place in the national competition of the Zero Robotics Challenge held on the International Space Station on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. The students recognized were Jaeger Johnson, April Vasquez, Maria Blaszkiewicz, Grisel Cabrera, Hansly Ledger, Michael Lefrancois, and Brooklynne Pimpo. The teachers who facilitated the teams are Kevin McInerney and Brian Jones. Also pictured are School Board Chair Debbie Hawley, Superintendent Genelle Yost, and Assistant Superintendent Kerry Padrick and Principal Lisa Sullivan. Congratulations!

Middle School Students Virtual Field Trip to Agriscience & Veterinarian Technician Programs at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) department hosted virtual field trips as a platform to connect students to opportunities within SLPS high schools and increase awareness of college and career pathways.  Middle school students within the district and their teachers went on a virtual field trip to Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep Magnet.  The students learned about the career opportunities and pathways available to them including Animal Science, Agriculture Mechanics, and Veterinarian Assistant.  Each program engaged students with virtual demonstrations, classroom and lab tours, and a question-and-answer segment with students in the program.   A special thank you to … Read More

Middle School Students STEM and Career & Technical Education- Energy & the Environment with Mr. Fess (Northport K8)

Sixth grade students in Mr. Fess’ STEM class created working wind-turbines out of old toy motors as part of their “Energy & the Environment” curriculum.  All students designed, created, tested, and improved their own creations. Students rated their electricity production using a multimeter and made changes to their builds to improve their efficiency. Middle School Artists at Palm Pointe Study Artist Kehinde Wiley

Middle school artists studied the art of Kehinde Wiley for Black History Month.  Kehinde Wiley is most famous for his presidential portrait of Barack Obama. His artwork is known for its unique portraiture style that uses vintage, floral backgrounds paired with an emphasis on the model’s unique style.  Wiley’s paintings are inspired by the old masterpieces by having his models pose like a particular painting of old.  Palm Pointe virtual and traditional artists researched old masterpieces and picked out their favorite to recreate the pose.  Then, keeping with Wiley’s style they found a vintage background and digitally edited their portraiture … Read More
