Northport Culinary students have been studying Food Safety. Virtual student, Eric Hoffman-Harris showed his excitement for Culinary Arts with a graphic kitchen safety poster. He went above and beyond on the assignment including pictures of himself in the kitchen. Eric even had his dad drop off the poster so Ms. Savela can hang it in the culinary classroom.

The Project Citizen National Showcase was recently held, where students from Massachusetts to Arizona tackled problems in their community. Students from Mrs. Wright’s 3rd period Civics class from last school year earned an Exceptional rating on their project, “Water We Waiting For?” Last January, Hannah Dorval, Devin Habyan, Alexia Morgan, and Caleb Chuquillanqui represented their class at the district showcase, where they presented the class project, seeking to combat the high rate of child drownings in the state of Florida by proposing changes to public policy.  They were interviewed by multiple judges and answered questions about their proposed policy, which helped the … Read More

Weatherbee School Counselors recently obtained a donation of Disney masks for all of our students.  A huge THANK YOU to Disney and Medshare.   Pictured are Kai, Chloe, Deion, JaShawn, Leo, and Ryan wearing their new masks.  

West Gate’s Third Grade teacher, Kristin Bowman, uses ten minutes of mindful meditation to help students break into the day.  She says that it’s “very effective in grounding the kids and making them present for the day ahead.”

CAST elementary students in Ms. Swabon’s on campus and MySchool virtual visual arts classes started their school year by drawing a self-portrait through the lens of a “selfie.”  The young artists were given the option to use a template provided to them or to trace a cell phone to create an image of how they see themselves. This first project is always a great starting point for both the artist and the teacher to open conversation about the artistic experience.

Each year at Northport, our school prepares and presents a huge and unified presentation to commemorate September 11, 2001. This year, unfortunately, due to social distancing and mask wearing, our program will not be the same meeting in the media center that we have done every year. We will never forget how important it is to teach the children though. Our lessons will continue. The Northport media center is dedicated to the eight children who lost their lives on 9/11. Students and teachers at Morningside Elementary School are actively engaging in Social Emotional Learning both live and virtually. Students are participating in Sanford Harmony lessons, Circles, and Meet Ups.  They have set Harmony Goals for their individual classrooms and are creating unique greetings and responses to emotions.  Blue Jays are creating safe, healing and relationship-centered environments and we are so proud of all their hard work as we begin this new school year!

The second grade students of Lawnwood Elementary are enhancing their comprehension, vocabulary, and listening skills by participating in daily read aloud instruction.

During his distance learning challenge class, Mikhail organized a fundraiser to benefit students in Saint Lucie County.  His fundraiser ended up providing 133 laptops to students through the Education Foundation and over 1,000 meals to families through Feeding America.  He is truly an amazing individual.

CAST Kindergarten teacher and STEAM Advocate Mrs. Rebecca Benton made some special deliveries to her brand new kindergarten students. She went door-to-door delivering goodie bags filled with some treats, an all about me poster, and “jitter glitter” to make sure there were no nerves for their very first day of school.

Frida is an expressive artist of Mexican descent. Frida believed in open self expression and so do we. MySchool teachers at CAST have found some amazing ways to go above and beyond for their virtual students! Mrs. Robyn Church framed pictures of each of her wonderful fourth grade students and placed them on individual desks in her classroom to help create the same warm in-person environment she’s used to. St. Lucie Public Schools has an easy to use tool for parents to find bus stop locations and pick up times for their students.   Please visit the school district webpage http://www.stlucieschools.org then click on the “Find my bus Route” graphic on the upper right-hand side of the page.  This link will take parents to the Transportation website, where you can register your student for bus service and find the pick up times and locations.        

All students, regardless of which school they attend, must submit a new meal application for the 20/21 school year. Students will no longer be automatically approved for meals at no cost. Now is the time to apply for the 2020/2021 free and reduce meal benefit. This must be completed prior to August 24th so that an updated meal status is on file. The application can be found at https://foodservice.stlucie.k12.fl.us/. Only one meal application needs to be completed per family.
