On Saturday, November 7th, 2020, the JROTC Jaguar Battalion’s Raider Team hosted a Raider competition at Port Saint Lucie High School. Our mixed team, male team, and female team competed in each of five events: Relay Race, Fitness Challenge, Rope Bridge, Tire Flip, and a mile of Cross-Country Rescue. Despite the pandemic, the WEST Prep class of 2021 took a class picture. While maintaining safe social distancing, Brick and Mortar and MySchool students were able to connect and capture a memory for their senior year.  It is more important, now more than ever, to promote social connections.

Students at Village Green took part in Anti Bullying Week by promoting positive anti-bullying messages with a poster contest and participating in a wide range of anti-bullying programs coordinated by school counselor, Nicole Jakubiak. This year’s St. Lucie West K-8 School’s Vocabulary Parade was better than ever! Each student was given a word from the academic vocabulary list and created a Frayer Model in the classroom in which they were able to define and use the word in a sentence correctly. Then, each student taught their classmates all about the word! Fifth-graders at CAST practiced playing some spooky Halloween music during their Fine Arts classes in October. In Dr. Irwin’s music class, students played hand drums, tambourines, triangles, and claves along with the Silly Symphony Skeleton dance. In Mr. Guess’ instrumental ensemble class, students combined the guitar, keyboard, xylophone, and the Nuvo Dood in an awesome arrangement of “Monster Mash.” Boo-tiful job, Performers!

On Friday, October 30, 2020, the Port St. Lucie Jaguar Battalion held its first honor guard to help with the Port St. Luce High School’s homecoming game against Martin County High School. Many cadets showed up to help work the honor guard, resulting in the parking detail working to get cars where they needed to be smoothly and proficiently. The Fifth Grade Students of Lawnwood Elementary School are measuring volume by counting unit cubes and relating volume to the operations of multiplication and addition.

Lincoln Park Academy Junior Angelica Holman won the FHSAA Girls Golf State Championship.  She shot 138 over two days to take the Gold!  Lincoln Park Academy “Staffulty” is proud of all that Angelica has accomplished and we celebrate her success and amazing future in athletics!

Students in Ms. Jackson’s Kindergarten class at Oak Hammock K-8, are engaged with a Nearpod lesson with the book Lizzie Little, The Sky is Falling. After interacting with the book, students were able to test what they had learned by competing to win ‘Time to Climb’ while Ms. Jackson helped and checked their sequence questions. Students celebrated and cheered their success’s as they answered the questions while watching their character race to the finish line.

Mariposa Elementary School’s teachers and students celebrated Storybook Character Day with a parade. They showcased their favorite storybooks and dressed as their favorite characters. In the classrooms, students read their stories to each other, and enjoyed some treats. Our virtual students, Danna Sooknanan and Amiyah Kokayi participated during this special day. Mr. Logue and Ms. Patton dressed up as their favorite story book character as well. We even had Colonel Sanders (Tyler Rubenstein) come visit Mariposa with his autobiography. It was a great day for literacy fun (and dressing up!) at our school.

Superintendent Gent, joined by School Board Chairman Debbie Hawley, Board Member Troy Ingersoll and Assistant to the Superintendent Dr. Kevin Perry, made surprise visits to two SLPS schools this morning (November 10, 2020). The first stop was at C.A. Moore Elementary where they recognized Ms. Latricia Stubbs as the 2019-2020 Assistant Principal of the Year. Ms. Stubbs is now serving as a Principal at C.A. Moore Elementary. The second stop was at Allapattah Flats K8 School where they surprised Ms. Ana Rodriguez-Oronoz as the 2019-2020 Principal of the Year for SLPS! Congratulations to the two amazing administrators!
