St. Lucie Public Schools has five pre-apprenticeship programs preparing students for careers. The pre-apprenticeship Career and Technical Education (CTE) high school programs are located across the District: Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering at Treasure Coast High Building Construction Technologies at Port St Lucie High Outboard Marine Service Technology at St Lucie West Centennial High Pharmacy Technician at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy – The W.E.S.T. Prep Magnet Technical Design at Port St Lucie High The pre-apprenticeships offered in CTE at St. Lucie Public Schools lead into registered apprenticeship trades of Carpenter, Industrial Manufacturing Technician, Truss Design Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and Yacht Service Technician.
CAST’s Culture Crew wanted to show the teachers, staff and students at our amazing school just how lucky we are to have them! We had a rainbow-filled spirit week which ended in a snack cart delivering special snacks before spring break!
Northport children and parents are just so lucky to have two awesome crossing guards posted at the main entrance to the school. One afternoon Cheri Portinga and Mr. Santa gave out special SMILE notes with messages to all walkers and biker riders heading east. Mr. Santa always charms the students at the holidays. ? Southport Middle School 2020-2021 Literacy and Art teachers worked together to spread kindness to some very special members of our community. Thanks to Mrs. Herman, Ms. Caissy, Mrs. Richards and the literacy teachers, and the entire Bobcat team who created cards for the folks in nursing home facilities who have been unable to see their families through the pandemic. The Administration showed their appreciation for their Osprey Staff by surprising them with a breakfast treat before Spring Break. Ms. Galloway thanked everyone for hanging in to the end and for giving their all. CTE Medical teachers and students from St. Lucie Public Schools participated in a virtual forum with Dr. Thomas Matese, Dr. Josephin Mathai, Dr. Ashkahn Zomorrodi, Dr. Nguyen, and Dr. McNamara from St. Lucie Medical Center. Over 200 SLPS Medical students learned about the process to become a Physician from the St. Lucie Medical Center’s Emergency Medicine Residency DEI group. This presentation also included Resident students currently in the Emergency Medicine program sharing their personal experiences and pathway to achieve their medical career goals.
Tina Ankeny, representing St. Lucie Medical and Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute met with with St. Lucie Public School (SLPS) medical students on various topics related to employment and career opportunities within the local hospitals. The medical teachers joined in via Teams to allow their graduating seniors an opportunity to network with HCA hospital representatives and learn how their earned industry certification will get them entry-level positions after graduation. This session is a follow-up to the SLPS and EDC Counselor’s Healthcare Bus Tour session held in February 2021.
The Lincoln Park Academy STEM & Buds chapter began in November with a mission to empower students to bridge STEM and storytelling through peer mentorship and project creation. Since then, high school and middle school members have embarked on a genuine STEM research experience. The one hour and fifteen minute sessions allow students to discover six primary branches of STEM: engineering, social sciences, math, computer science, biology, and chemistry through various challenges, activities, presentations, and discussions. First Grade Students from Ms. McGowan’s class are participating in the Embryology Countdown in partnership with the St. Lucie County 4H. As part of the program, students participate in virtual lessons, make predictions, and document their observations.

Lincoln Park Academy highlighted the school’s achievements and greyhound pride in this year’s St. Lucie County Fair booth. The theme was, “School’s Shining Bright Under Carnival Lights.” The booth featured a ceramic greyhound posed as the school’s fortune teller, themed photographs of our administration, and various items from our sports, music, and art programs. Lincoln Park Academy won second place in the high school division and received a $500.00 award. We would like to thank Dermody Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics for sponsoring this award and the St. Lucie County Fair Association.
5th-grade students in Mrs. Murphy’s dance studio are rehearsing their choreography for an upcoming Flash Mob performance on campus. Meanwhile, in Ms. Swabon’s art class, students are creating Brazilian Carnival masks as a part of the Flash Mob costumes.
In third grade, Mrs. Roti’s class completed a Scientific inquiry activity. Students observed how vascular tissue within plant stems move water, minerals, and nutrients throughout the plant.
For the second year in a row, Coach Nick Zoerhof and Assistant Coach Becky Carranza led the Southport Middle School soccer team to the final county championship. The team was excited to receive their first-place trophy after winning the final game!
Full S.T.E.A.M. ahead! Hundreds of families stopped by the St. Lucie Public Schools District office Wednesday night to learn more about the MSAP Magnet School offerings during the second annual MSAP Magnet Schools Expo. Families were greeted by teams from the two MSAP Magnet K-8 schools, Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie and Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies. Seventh and eighth graders in Mr. Tobias’ Band class took advantage of the beautiful Saint Lucie weather to practice for their upcoming performance outside. We can’t wait to hear them on performance day! They sounded great!
Kindergarten and First grade had so much fun during our annual St. Lucie West K-8 School Character Book Parade! During the week, students in both MySchool Virtual and brick and mortar read a favorite book, completed an engaging book report project, and then, on Friday, dressed-up as their favorite characters from their books! During the parade, students got to show their classmates and teachers their character book costumes. Kindergarten and First grade teachers joined the fun by dressing-up too. WAY TO GO SHARKS!
