Traditional and virtual students were able to celebrate and exercise through a school-wide Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart activity. Village Green Environmental Studies School did an AMAZING job and at last count, the school has raised  $11,808.00, with donations still coming in. Our top fundraiser was kindergartner, Miliana Gorman, who earned all the prizes including a gold medal and a cape! We are so proud of our students.  

The Kids Heart Challenge is an annual event the students participate in at Oak Hammock K-8. Students in Coach Branim’s K-5 physical education resources class learned about heart health while hosting a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. The virtual fundraiser event had a total of 130 elementary student participants who raised $7,430.00 this school year. Students in the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University program are spacing out in unexpected ways!  Fort Pierce Central is one of 12 high schools across Florida chosen to participate in the initiative.  The students’ objectives are to fully check out the drone operating program and make necessary adjustments before launch.  Students are seen assembling drones in support of ERAU’s new Flight Test Engineering Program. In addition, students shared a zoom call briefing on space flight with Dr. Jose Nunez,  Chief of Research and Technology at NASA.

Fort Pierce Central wrestling closed the season yesterday in epic form! For the first time in 27 years, Fort Pierce Central placed in the top 3 teams in the state (1994)! For the first time in 25 years (1996) Fort Pierce Central now has a state champ – Gabriel Jacas at 220 pounds. White City Elementary had a successful virtual family night that included a prize wheel, the wave, and lots of smiles. WCE’s Social Emotional Learning committee collaborated with the SLPS SEL department to host the virtual event on Teams. Eighty participants attended the event to learn about Social Emotional Learning at WCE and how to reinforce skills at home. Thank you to our community partners, Chick-Fil-A, Applebee’s, Golden Corral, and Super Play USA, for sponsoring our giveaways.

Talk about a corny guest speaker! Sixth-grade students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM class received a virtual visit from Bill Johnston of “Kansas Corn STEM.” The students learned all about how Ethanol is made from corn and explored the benefits of using Ethanol when compared to traditional fossil fuels. These students are in the middle of their green-energy unit on Biomass. They are also working on designing and building their own Biomass demonstration projects.

Mariposa Elementary is acknowledging student success in Mr. Evans’ class by celebrating Music in our Schools Month. Students are passionately demonstrating their musical skill sets for their teachers, classmates, and families by sharing songs and activities they learned in music class. Students in upper grades share how their younger siblings are singing catchy songs nonstop at home. Meanwhile, some K-2 students are gaining a head-start in the music curriculum through older siblings sharing their wealth of musical knowledge. Happy Birthday to our dear Dr. Seuss ? ! Northport celebrated across the campus and virtually. The children in the library read The Lorax and learned all about environmentalism. It has been a GREAT DAY ?@ school. Children celebrated by reading Dr. Seuss books and dressing for the day.

CAST sixth grade students in Mrs. Albers’ science class learned about the structures and functions of major organelles of plants and animal cells. Students created a 2D model of a cell using watercolor techniques to illustrate and identify the similarities and differences found within the animal and plant cells.

CAST seventh grade students in Mrs. Cruz’s science class learned about genes and how they store heredity information. Students drew and designed Punnett Square diagrams. They completed an interactive Heredity web quest, integrating visual arts, technology and science.

Employees of St. Lucie Medical Center were grateful for the uplifting and inspirational cards they received from the sixth grade students at Southport Middle School. Students in Mrs. Richards literacy classes created cards to thank the healthcare workers for their service during these challenging times. The students’ thoughtful words, gestures and support were recognized and deeply appreciated by the hospital staff.  

Students from St. Lucie West K-8 School proudly wore their new face masks that were donated from one of their business partners, TJ Maxx in Tradition. They also wrote Thank You notes and cards expressing their gratitude for the fun face coverings. WE LOVE OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS! GO SHARKS! e

Lincoln Park Academy won three gold medals at State Championships in the Fall and their Winter teams are seeing similar success. The Girls Basketball Team won their 7th District Championship in a row and their first Regional Championship in school history to advance to the State Final Four.  The Lady Greyhounds beat American Heritage in their semifinal appearance and fell short in the Championship game to the #1 team in the nation.  Congratulations to Coach Adams, his staff, and his team for finishing as the Class 4A State Runner-Up. Middle school artists studied the art of Kehinde Wiley for Black History Month.  Kehinde Wiley is most famous for his presidential portrait of Barack Obama. His artwork is known for its unique portraiture style that uses vintage, floral backgrounds paired with an emphasis on the model’s unique style.  Wiley’s paintings are inspired by the old masterpieces by having his models pose like a particular painting of old.  Palm Pointe virtual and traditional artists researched old masterpieces and picked out their favorite to recreate the pose.  Then, keeping with Wiley’s style they found a vintage background and digitally edited their portraiture … Read More
