At Mariposa Elementary, fourth grader Jesse Hindman received a perfect score on his third grade math FSA and received a certificate from the Governor for his hard work! Lakewood Park Elementary staff and students were on hand for the Grand Re-opening of the newly remodeled Lakewood Park Winn Dixie.  The LWP chorus performed at the ceremony and the school received a generous donation.

Northport is so thrilled to host parents and grandparents at the very first Student of the Month. The Northport community celebrated students who for demonstrating good citizenship, being a good friend, stepping up for a friend in need, and for being an all-around good kid. The school loves to celebrate our children and take every opportunity to invite families into the school as partners in education.

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, cadets from the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion joined four other high school Battalions at Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in Fellsmere, Florida. The cadets negotiated through various obstacles that tested their skill, strength, and ability to overcome hardships. Cadets participated in a hands-on experiences including Marine and Aerial Assault obstacle courses. Each consisted of vigorous activities testing their balance and fear of heights.  Some of these elements included Low Belly Over, Belly Crawl, High Step Over, and Confidence Climb. Mayor Greg Oravec visited Palm Pointe 3rd graders to discuss how the mayor’s role is important for our local government. The students really enjoyed asking lots of questions and interacting with Mayor Oravec.

Constitution Week is officially declared this year as September 17-23, 2018, and schools all across America will celebrate the nation’s Constitution. Northport is proud to educate our students about our Constitution. Each morning this week, a different student voice will recite the Preamble to the Constitution on the public announcements. Community partners and neighbors, Debra Magrann and Pauline Pavlick, visited the Northport Media Center to educate our students about the Constitution. Students learned that Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, James Madison and 31 other delegates met at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The date was September 17, 1787. After learning about their school family in class, the VPK children in Mrs. Reynolds and Ms. Ifill-Bowen’s class at Allapattah Flats took a tour to visit some of the people who work in their school. They met school personnel and saw them at work. The children learned a little more about what each person does in the school.    

What a beautiful day @Northport. Grandparents came to visit and stayed for lunch. The school courtyard and cafeteria were filled with grandparents and their children enjoying food together. Rachel Ellsworth and the culinary arts students prepared a lovely taco bar and school lunch was also available. Every nook and cranny was filled with love, care and enjoyment of family! The Northport community was filled to the brim with joy and love today! Thanks to our grandparents for making Northport a pleasure to treasure. Fort Pierce Central’s Culinary Academy and administration feed the football team! Not only do culinary students gain hospitality experience and volunteer hours while supporting our football team but they were also visited by Brandon Parks, FPC Culinary Academy graduate (farthest left in picture). Brandon is currently attending Valencia College in Orlando and just landed a job with Disney’s Animal Kingdom restaurant as a 2nd line cook! Disney hired him based on his work experiences in the Cobra Cafe and the St. Lucie CookOff (winning team member) as he never worked in the restaurant industry. Congratulations, Brandon Parks! Go Cobras!

Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s cafeteria has a bright new look for students to enjoy.  Working in partnership with the high school, Child Nutrition Services infused the school’s new design to provide an uplifting experience where students can enjoy great food, fellowship, and Panther pride!

The students in the STEAM Design Challenges classes at Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies (SGAET) just completed their first Design Challenge: Galactic Gliders. Students worked in teams to design a unique hoop glider that would satisfy their client, Mrs. Ima Sorin’s, needs. Students had the chance to design, build, test, redesign and retest prototypes of gliders and then create and present different marketing projects in order to promote their product. The students recorded their data and knowledge learned in their Interactive STEM Notebooks and in their online Canvas course.  

Help Buick donate up to $10,000 to Ft. Pierce Westwood High School! Drivers 21 and older are invited to take a 2 – 3 minute test drive on November 3rd at Fort Pierce Westwood High School. Buick will donate $10 for the first 100 test drives and $20 per test drive after the school hits the 100 benchmark. The event is scheduled from 8 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, November 3rd.  

On Wednesday, September 5th, Lincoln Park Academy’s entire 12th grade congregated in their auditorium for a Jostens inspired commitment to graduate ceremony to celebrate being a senior and to commit to graduate at the end of the year. The energy was captivating when asked how they all felt about being seniors this year as students were seen bouncing in their seats and were heard shouting such phrases as, “Oh, Yeah!” Every single student walked onto the stage, looked our esteemed principal, Mr. Sanabria, in the eyes, and said, “I commit to graduate!” They then joyfully walked over to the table … Read More

Ft. Pierce Central High School’s JROTC 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony honored the heroes and victims of 911.  

Port St. Lucie High School students attended a ceremony during third period on September 11, 2018, to recognize and recollect the tragedy that happened on September 11, 2001. The ceremony began with the Presentation of Colors by the Jaguar Battalion’s Color Guard commanded by Cadet Captain Brianna Harris, accompanied by Cadet Sergeant Justin Locklar as state flag, Cadet Sergeant Alexis Morris as national guard and Cadet Sergeant Shane Canady as state guard. The Northport Media Center is officially named “The Northport K-8 School Children’s Memorial Library” in honor and remembrance of the eight children who perished on September 11, 2001. The children from United Flight 175 were Christine Hanson, age 2, David Brandhorst, age 3, and Juliana McCourt, age 4. The children from American Flight 77 were Dana Falkenberg, age 3, Zoe Falkenberg, age 8, Rodney Dickens, age 11, Bernard Curtis Brown, age 11 and Asia Cottom, age 11. Over 600 Rockets in grades 1-8 took part in a “Reading is Fun!” Carnival on August 31st.  During the carnival students played games, danced, and enjoyed a tasty treat.  Students qualified for the carnival by completing the Summer Reading Challenge.  Many thanks to all of our volunteers, teachers, and staff members for making the event a success.  Fun was had by all!
