LPA Going to State Competition for the 18th Consecutive Year

Congratulations to the Lincoln Park Academy Odyssey of the Mind team! On March 9, 2019, LPA competed in the regional tournament at Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach. It was the first time in five years a Division 2 team entered the competitions. The team members are headed to the Florida State Tournament on the campus of the University of Central Florida on April 6, 2019.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from K through 12th grades. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.

The Problem 5 team captured first place in its category. Pictured above just after receiving their gold medals, from left to right, are Bryce Myers, Madison Carpenter, Madeline Chiong, Avery Greer, Aniya Maldonado, Coach Plasencia, Tobias Miller and Derek Boyer.

The problem-solving performance of Opposites Distract received much praise for the colorful costumes reflecting the emotions represented, great voice projection, stage presence, and exceptional creativity. Their performance in the Spontaneous Program Challenge was another team highlight. The program is worth a maximum of 100 points, but the judges exercised their power to award additional points, raising the bar to 130.66 points for their construction project.

We are very proud of our Odyssey of the Mind team and wish the team members the best of luck at the state tournament!
