Students at PSLHS attended the Career Connect Conference today sponsored by CareerSource Research Coast where they were connected with businesses and education advisors from our Tri-County area (Indian River, St. Lucie & Martin). Oak Hammock K8 School observed its annual Holocaust Remembrance Day. Mrs. Belkis Madera and her 6th-grade students organized an amazing event where a group of Holocaust survivors and other dignitaries spent the entire day at our school sharing their stories with our fifth and sixth-grade students as well as some of our District Board members and Administrators. The Survivors took a moment to admire the Holocaust Gallery display that was created by the students. They were intrigued by the amount of knowledge the students displayed about this moment in history. We look forward to them returning in the future. … Read More
Lincoln Park Academy Students4H2O had another great time at Stuart Memorial Park as they partook in Water Fest 2023! Lincoln Park Academy proudly represented St. Lucie County at this environmental conservation event. Hundreds of attendees stopped by to check out their activity focused on upcycling egg cartons as planting pots. A big thank you goes out to all the administrators, teachers, students, and parent volunteers that helped make Water Fest possible!LPA Students4H2O looks forward to the possibilities to come! The Lincoln Park Academy Woodwind Choir advanced to State Solo & Ensemble after earning a ‘superior’ at District S&E. In a notable display of musicianship and dedication, the ensemble received a ‘superior’ at the state level in Wellington, FL. Go Greyhounds!
Congratulations to Fort Pierce Westwood’s Agriscience Program Instructor Jenna Blankenbaker and her students, Paige Cruse and Reed Blankenbaker on being selected as Florida FFA Proficiency Finalists! The Agricultural Proficiency Award program recognizes and rewards FFA members for exceptional accomplishments and excellence in a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program. These supervised programs are planned, practical activities conducted outside of class time that help students develop and apply agricultural knowledge and skills in a real-world environment. On Saturday, April 1st, St. Lucie Public Schools celebrated the annual Elementary Science Showcase. Fifth-grade students from Floresta Elementary, Frances K. Sweet, Lakewood Park Elementary, Manatee K-8, Morningside Elementary, and Mosaic Digital Academy had an opportunity to exhibit, talk about, and answer questions about their projects, either individually or as a group. Those in attendance, including teachers, board, and community members, were impressed by our talented fifth graders. Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas Fort Pierce Central High students competed in the annual District History Fair. At various points during the school year, Cadets from the JROTC Program have trained on how to administer treatment for various types of situations that require First Aid. This past week, they focused on CPR for both adults and small children. Students received classroom instruction for two days before moving into practical and scenario-based exercises, that served to build their confidence and proficiency in performing the potentially life-saving skill. Discovery Day, hosted by IRSC, was an exciting day for our Southern Oaks Middle School students to explore the programs offered at their local high schools, as well as the programs offered at Indian River State College. IRSC showcased their current trade programs and dual enrollment opportunities. Mosaic Digital Academy students in Mrs. Schwenger’s 4th-grade class and Mrs. Mimnaugh’s 5th-grade class worked collaboratively to investigate answers to scientific questions. Using the scientific method, students made predictions based on their hypotheses on the following topics: Hydroelectric Power; Mass, Force, and Motion; Sound Energy; Static Electricity; and Chemical Change. The Florida Assistant Principals Association announced last Friday, March 31st, 2023, that Makeda Brome, Assistant Principal from Chester A. Moore Elementary School has been named the 2022-2023 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year representing Florida. Mr. Mathison’s Cybersecurity classes had a wonderful trip today on our tour of IRSC. The students had fun exploring the robotics lab, and the programming that goes behind the robots. Then we checked out their IT lab and played the “Backdoors & Breaches” card game which simulates scenarios of IT pros vs hackers. Finally, we toured their manufacturing building to see the workshops, nanotech, and business labs. Students enjoyed the hands-on experiences during the field trip, which was paid for with the Cyber/IT Pathways Grant from the Florida Center for Cybersecurity.
On Wednesday, March 29th, the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted our final Blood Drive of the school year. With help from our Cadets, we were able to run the Blood Drive smoothly and efficiently. Thanks to our Cadets, members of One Blood as well as our teachers and staff here at Port Saint Lucie High School, we were able to collect enough blood to save over 200+ lives.
The Oak Hammock 8th Grade Osprey Band participated in the Florida Bandmaster’s Association Concert Band Music Performance Assessment. The 8th-grade students worked diligently to learn and perform Mount Vernon, Little Brazil Suite, and Little Rondo for Band. They received straight superior ratings on stage and a superior in sight reading, receiving an overall superior.
