SLPS Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Monday, January 15, 2024, St. Lucie Public Schools, along with SLPS Superintendent and Board Members, participated in Fort Pierce’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. The theme of this year was “Dream, Believe, Achieve” and was Grand Marshaled by Dr. Keven G. Perry and Dr. Christine Taylor. Schools honored Dr. King and his dreams of equality by creating floats that showcased his principles of racial equality and nonviolent social change. Preapprenticeship Opportunities at TCHS – Engineering/Manufacturing

Mr. Phil DePuy’s students from Treasure Coast High School (Engineering and Manufacturing programs) were afforded an opportunity to participate in a presentation hosted by Colleen Gill (Apprenticeship Navigator) from CareerSource Research Coast.  Students learned about apprenticeship opportunities available to them after high school along with education and career options for those wanting to pursue a career in the industrial manufacturing industry.  Mr. DePuy offers the pre-apprenticeship program for students enrolled in his program at TCHS.  Ms. Colleen Gill is also an Engineering/Manufacturing Advisory Board Member.

McKinney Vento Program Packs Holiday Bags for Students Experiencing Homelessness

The McKinney Vento Program, with the help of countless donors, packed Holiday Bags brimming with love and essentials last week. These bags were sent out to the schools to go home with their students currently experiencing homelessness. From cozy Bombas socks to Barnes & Noble books sparking imaginations, handwritten cards, and hygiene items, each bag was a personalized treasure trove. This project is a labor of love, but hearing just one student’s gratitude makes every minute worthwhile. SLPS on Parade for the Holidays!

Superintendent Dr. Jon Prince and board members were thrilled to participate in the Port St. Lucie Festival of Lights Parade as well as the Fort Pierce Sights and Sounds Christmas Parade this past weekend. He was joined by Board Chairman Debbie Hawley, Board Vice Chairman Jack Kelly, and Board Members Troy Ingersoll, Dr. Donna Mills, and Jennifer Richardson. A special thanks to the drivers of the school bus (Mitch Miller) and convertibles (De’Aundrea Myles, Beral Toney, and Trenecia Scott), as well as the communications department for the festive parade decorations.

CTE High School Nursing Assistant Students Participate in Skills Lab and Tour at IRSC School of Nursing
