The students and staff at Fort Pierce Westwood High School welcomed Mr. Michael Carbenia, the director of Career & Technical Education, as a guest in the Speakers Bureau series. Mr. Carbenia opened his presentation with a PowerPoint used to describe the Career & Technical Education program. FPMSA Students Receive a Special Visit From the First Alert Weather Team The WPBF First Alert Weather Class brings a storm of excitement to Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts as the team of professional meteorologists teach 3rd graders about weather systems. Meteorologists Vanessa Vincent and Taylor Grenda were on site for the day’s lesson.

During a recent Speakers Bureau Engagement, students at PACE Center for Girls were fortunate to hear encouraging words of School Board Member Carolyn Hilson. She empowered the girls to not let the adversity they have encountered hold them hostage as a victim and instead be a VICTOR. Our young ladies were moved by her words and are moving forward with a positive outlook on life. Thank you, Ms. Hilson, for your words of encouragement.

On February 2, 2017, over one hundred 9th graders from St. Lucie West Centennial High School’s (SLWCHS) Freshman Academy visited the main campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. Students visited multiple class buildings, toured the football stadium, fitness center, student union, and many other facilities associated with academia and student life, and had question-and-answer sessions with helpful FAU staff. ST. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) continues to open additional pathways to college success for more and more high school students.  On March 1, 2017, the District will launch its first SAT School Day, affording all juniors the opportunity to participate in SAT testing during the regular school day.  “We are always looking for ways to support our students.       Parents, St. Lucie Sheriff’s officers, business leaders, and SLPS School Board members visited Savanna Ridge Elementary and read with students. Our students and Principal, Mrs. D’Jion Jackson-Harris, had a great time designing their “vocabulary hat” to encourage literacy and to use hands on creativity to learn new words. A few of our students with Mrs. Jackson-Harris “Taking Hats Off to Vocabulary” to enhance literacy skills.   Our dedicated teachers decorated their classroom doors to represent their class’s favorite book.

Samuel Gaines Academy had the honor of having Mr. Dan Frank, executive director of schools for SLPS, as a guest speaker for the Speakers’ Bureau. Eighth graders had the opportunity to hear Mr. Frank’s story and his life’s struggles before he became an educator. All in an effort to help students understand the importance of an education, hard work, and effort. He was accompanied by Dr. Donna Mills, SLPS board member, and Pastor Kenny Mills Sr.

Congratulations to Malik Mosley and Keionte Blackwood on their signing acceptance to Albany State University. Fort Pierce Westwood is proud of its student athletes.

Volunteers and staff were busy on the campus of Lakewood Park Elementary School Saturday. Painting, repairing picnic tables, doing yard work, and sprucing up the reading garden was the welcomed work from the partnership with Christ Fellowship Church located in PSL.
