Mr. Ian Cotner, Regional Director for AT&T, presented a $2,000 check to the Education Foundation as part of the corporation’s effort to support STEM education and provide experimental learning opportunities for students. The funds will be used to support Career and Technical Education and middle school drone programs.  

The Florida Department of Education presents the Golden and Silver School Awards to recognize exemplary programs, which promote parent and community involvement in education. The Golden School Award recognizes elementary, secondary and adult schools that meet the following criteria: A minimum of 80 percent of the school staff participated in training related to school volunteerism. A school volunteer coordinator is designated for recruitment, placement, training and supervision of school volunteers. The Five Star School Award was created by the Commissioner’s Community Involvement Council and is presented annually to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement. In order to earn Five Star School recognition, a school must show documentation that it has achieved 100 percent of the established criteria in the following categories. The Florida Education Association of Retired Educators awards two Innovative Grants to local educators each year.   Educators can apply for a $100.00 innovative grant for a project that will add to efficient and effective teaching to enhance student learning. SLWCH Parli Pro Team (11th grade) placed 2nd at the HOSA District IX Winter Leadership Conference (WLC). The purpose of the parliamentary procedure was to develop leadership skills in HOSA members by conducting a simulated business meeting. This event was based on team competition; therefore, members learned the importance of cooperation and working together through competitive performance. This event involved two rounds of competition. Round One consisted of a written test to evaluate the team’s understanding of parliamentary procedure. Moore Elementary School and SLPS extend appreciation and gratitude to Mrs. Frankie Sayles for her dedicated volunteer service and for her contributions to the education of children for thirty-three years.  In a special celebration on Friday, February 10, 2017, Mrs. Sayles was surrounded by children, school personnel, and community leaders as the Frankie Sayles Learning Center at C. A. Moore Elementary School was dedicated to her in honor of the support she has provided to countless children over the years.
