TC-MOAA 5K Run-Walk By: Sarai Narvaez The Treasure Coast Military Officers Association of America (TC-MOAA) conducted a JROTC premier 5K race and walk. The purpose of this event was to promote excellence in JROTC programs in St. Lucie and Martin Counties, community involvement, Veterans programs, and membership of the TC-MOAA. Three of our cadets participated in 5K race and walk. Eleven JROTC high schools competed in the race which were Fort Pierce Central, Fort Pierce Westwood, Port St. Lucie, Centennial, Treasure Coast, Jensen Beach, Martin County, South Fork, Lincoln Park Academy, and John Carroll. The Jaguar Battalion was cordially invited to The Daughters of the American Revolution’s annual meeting at the PGA Golf Club to present the colors. The color guard was led by Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Triplett carrying the national flag. Cadet First Sergeant Morgan Emerson carried the state flag while Cadet Major Savannah Cymbal and Cadet Major Kaylee Zuidema stood as their guards. After the color guard, each cadet had the opportunity to talk about what their future plans are after high school. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Raider Team traveled to South Fork High School to compete in the Area III Regional Raider Meet State qualifier. They competed against 22 teams from nine other schools in five physically demanding events. The events consisted of Cross Country Rescue (team had to answer questions on first aid, treat a simulated 120lb casualty with supplies from 30lb ruck sacks, and then move the casualty and supplies one mile to the safe zone), 100 meter 300lb tire flip. Several schools competed in this meet from all over Florida (29 teams in total and 10 schools). The competition consisted of five different events including 3-mile team run; tire flip; Raider fitness challenge whereby the teams moved through a course consisting of a 10-yard low crawl, a 40 yard 20-30lb sandbag carry, an obstacle to either go over or under, a speed agility maze, a 120lb object carried 50 feet, and a turnaround point to repeat the course in reverse; rope bridge; and cross country rescue including a litter carry of 110 lbs. Port Saint Lucie High School’s JROTC Raider Team traveled to Atlantic High School to compete in a Raider Challenge. The competition consisted of back to back events starting with Rope Bridge and a physical fitness test (PT). During the PT test the team had to complete a total of 500 push-ups, 500 sit-ups, and 100 pull-ups.  The rest of the events consisted of a ½ mile litter carry with 80lbs of weight, move 6 30lb dumbbells and a log of over 250lbs from 200 yards, flip a 300lb tire 100 yards, and finish by running ½ a mile to the … Read More

The 25th annual POW/MIA ceremony was hosted by Chapter 556 of the Vietnam Veterans of America at Veterans Memorial Park.  Cadets from the Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion showed their support and paid their respects to our missing and captured veterans. This ceremony showed our appreciation to the people who defended our country and recognized that we will never forget them. Present at the ceremony was a table set for one. The school’s first preseason football game of the year was held on August 21, 2016 at Port Saint Lucie High School. The Color Guard provided support before the game. The Color Guard cadets were: Allison Wilhoit, Hayley Pollard and Morgan Emerson, commanded by Tesa May. During the game, the Honor Guard cadets provided help with parking. The Port Saint Lucie Jaguar football team played against Olympic Heights High School from Boca Raton.  The Port Saint Lucie Football team won with a score of 41-0.

  The Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion had its first car wash of the year at the Auto Zone on US1, on August 27, 2016. The car washes help the Battalion raise money for field trips, competitions, and numerous other things. We had lots of people show up and support us. The cadets were out volunteering for 6 hours, and received community service hours. The cadets raised almost $300.

The Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC cadets were excited to present the colors and be part of the Wounded Warrior Surf Day.  Cadet Staff Sergeant Marco Nader led the Color Guard presenting the national flag, Cadet Captain Travis Cetin presented the state flag, and standing as the guards were Cadet Staff Sergeant Malver Casanas and Cadet Major Kaylee Zuidema.  The Color Guard marched behind the bag pipe player leading the warriors and their families to the event.  The volunteers and participants were grateful for the cadets and the Color Guard. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion held their first annual Change of Command Ceremony on April, 27, 2016.   The Change of Command Ceremony is a ceremony to pass the command from the present Battalion Commander to the incoming Battalion Commander.  The command is also passed from the present Command Sergeant Major to the incoming Command Sergeant Major.  The key of the Change of Command is the passing of the unit’s colors.  The colors are the symbol of the commander’s authority representing her authorities to the organization. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion traveled to Lakeland, FL to compete in the Florida State Final Drill Competition on April 16th.  Out of the 396 Army JROTC programs in the state of FL 108 schools qualified to compete at the state finals. Every leader has to start somewhere and Girls State has been the starting point for many successful young students. The Girls State program is a summer leadership and citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion for High School students between their junior and senior years. Port Saint Lucie High Jaguar Battalion’s Cadet Captain Kaylee Zuidema was one of this year’s representatives. During the program, the participants are first divided up into subgroups referred to as cities. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion proudly supported the Port Saint Lucie Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. The Jaguar cadets provided an Honor Formation during the ceremony, Color Guard, and a tap ceremony. Lieutenant Colonel (USA Ret.) Nevarez was one of the guest speakers who gave an amazing speech. The Jaguars worked in unison with Treasure Coast High School Air Force JROTC, and other organizations for the posting of the colors. The cadets gave an outstanding presentation overall. The Jaguar Battalion greatly appreciates and salutes all of the veterans, and their sacrifices to our nations.

Port Saint Lucie High School cadets were honored to provide a saber guard when Army Specialist Gonzalez and his family were awarded with their new home. Army Specialist Gonzalez, a Port Saint Lucie veteran, lost his sight and suffered severe brain injuries in an IED explosion in 2004. The home was designed for his loss of sight with handrails and textured floors. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Raider team competed in South Fork’s Raider Competition against 17 teams from 7 other schools. The competition consisted of five events: 3 mile team run, Cross Country Rescue, The Raider Fitness Challenge, 200lb tire flip over a 100 meter course, and the One-Rope Bridge event.  Before the Cross Country Rescue everyone takes a written first aid test, during the event the team simulates a casualty by carrying an 80-120lb stretcher over a mile long course while wearing three 30lb ruck sacks.  To complete the Raider Fitness Challenge the team must go through a … Read More
