The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Raider team competed in Fort Pierce Westwood’s Raider Competition against 17 teams from 7 other schools. The competition consisted of six events: 3 mile team run, Cross Country Rescue, The Raider Fitness Challenge, 200lb tire flip over a 100-meter course, an obstacle course and the One-Rope Bridge event. Before the Cross Country Rescue, everyone takes a written first aid test, during the event the team simulates a casualty by carrying an 80-120lb stretcher over a mile long course while wearing three 30lb ruck sacks. Port Saint Lucie High School’s JROTC Raider Team traveled to Atlantic High School to compete in a Raider Challenge. The competition consisted of back to back events starting with Rope Bridge and a physical fitness test (PT). During the PT test the team had to complete a total of 500 push-ups, 500 sit-ups, and 85 pull-ups.  The rest of the events consisted of a ¾ mile litter carry with 80lbs of weight, move 40 20lb sandbags from one point to another, flip a 350lb tire 100 yards, and finish by running a mile to the finish line. The annual POW/MIA ceremony was hosted by Chapter 556 of the Vietnam Veterans of America at Veterans Memorial Park. Cadets from Port Saint Lucie High School showed their support and paid their respects to our missing and captured veterans. This ceremony is to show our appreciation to the people that defended our country and to recognize that they have not returned home. Present at the ceremony was a table set for one. Every year, local students fill out an application, write two essays and are interviewed to compete for a spot to go to Tallahassee for a chance to experience and participate in our states government. The Fort Pierce Central JROTC program started a food drive to support Big Brothers, Big Sisters of St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties in order to provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need. With the help of the Army JROTC program, led by LTC Nevárez and 1SG Randall, the Fort Pierce Central High School faculty and students, with the help of the girls’ soccer team, collected enough non-perishable food items to feed over 30 families, successfully exceeding their goals and expectations of 15 families. The Fort Pierce Central High School Fishing Club held its monthly Bass Club Tournament at Lake Okeechobee recently with 10 student anglers entered on five boats. It was a picture postcard morning that proved to be a great day on the lake for the competitors. Eight of the 10 student anglers weighed in, and the total for the day was 20 bass weighing in at 34 lbs 12 oz! the largest catch by a 5.77 pound fish caught by Will McKee, pictured. The Fort Pierce Central Army JROTC Cadets conducted a fundraiserrecently, called Celebrity Server!  The event was hosted at a local restaurant by the cadets from Fort Pierce Central High school. The event was to raise money for their program to be able to provide local needy families with complete Thanksgiving meal basket. The cadets asked their family, friends, and teachers to join in and buy tickets to participate in the event. The Fort Pierce Central High School ROTC Raiders team competed recently in regional competition among 16 Florida high schools and 49 teams to qualify for state competition. The Cobra battalion brought four teams a male team under Cadet Master Sergeant James Lowery and a second male mixed team under Cadet Staff Sergeant Daniel Grundstrom. The first male mixed team, under Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Robert Grundstrom, brought home third place in the three mile team run. Over 90 cadets from the Fort Pierce Central High School JROTC cadets recently conducted a beach cleanup day at Pepper Park in Fort Pierce. Their mission was to clean up the environment to help the community. After accomplishing their goal, the cadets enjoyed a picnic to enjoy the rest of the day after a morning of hard work. Fort Pierce Central Army Junior Reserve Officers‘ Training Corps (JROTC) hosted its 27th Annual Military Ball recently. The evening began with a reception line. Student cadets in uniform or floor-length dresses greeted senior officers and guests before finding their assigned chairs. The Cadet Color Guard Posted the Colors, and ceremonies began,  including an address by Assistant Superintendent Kevin G. Perry, and the night ended with a traditional dance.
