This past Saturday, 5th graders from Mosaic Digital Academy attended “Saturday with a Scientist” at Indian River State College, engaging in hands-on activities that brought their virtual science lessons to life. Students extracted DNA from strawberries using simple materials, gaining insight into cell structure and genetics. They explored the paleontology lab, examining real fossils and uncovering clues about prehistoric life and environments. Chelsy Marie Alvaredo knows water conservation. The St. Lucie West Centennial High School 9th grader won the 2026 Drop Savers Poster Contest, hosted by St. Lucie County, in conjunction with the Florida Section American Water Works Association (FSAWWA). The annual contest encourages students in all grade levels to draw a poster with a water conservation message.
