Chelsy Marie Alvaredo knows water conservation. The St. Lucie West Centennial High School 9th grader won the 2026 Drop Savers Poster Contest, hosted by St. Lucie County, in conjunction with the Florida Section American Water Works Association (FSAWWA).
The annual contest encourages students in all grade levels to draw a poster with a water conservation message. Over 175 entries were received from students in 9 schools, and a winner was selected from each grade level.
Chelsy’s poster is beautifully drawn with a message written in Spanish that states, “Small changes, big achievements. Take care of water today and sow hope for future generations. Water, an inexhaustible source of life and a mirror of the soul of our planet, whispers stories of continuity in every drop that flows. Let us honor its purity, not only by turning off the faucet, but by opening our hearts to the responsibility of protecting it. Turn off the faucet, open awareness. Preserve water!”
Chelsy will be recognized, along with the other winners, at a St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners Meeting on April 7. April will also be proclaimed Water Conservation Month.
