Forest Grove Middle School hosted student-led conferences as we approach PM3 and EOC testing month. We must say that we have some pretty awesome Bulldogs; this includes students, staff members, and families! Our student-led conferences showcased how impactful school and family collaboration can be. Bayshore’s Mental Health Awareness Night

Bayshore recently hosted a Mental Health Awareness night, bringing together students, families, and staff to promote mental well-being. Counselors Ms. Alexander, Ms. Cesar, Ms. Mora, Ms. Jones the School Based Mental Health Counselor, Ms. Bonner the school psychologist, and Ms. Napoleon the school social worker, along with teachers, each had booths offering valuable mental health resources. The iMind booth, a community resource for mental health, and Ms. Benton, the Life Skills Parent Educator, provided parent resources. SLWK8 Fraction Fun in Mrs. Quiles’s Class

In Topic 11, our Shark Nation mathematicians are diving into the world of fractions using hands-on manipulatives and a student-centered classroom approach. From fraction strips to number lines, students are exploring how fractions compare and how they can be equivalent—all while modeling and explaining their thinking with confidence! The Jaguar Battalion recently held its annual Field Day, a competition designed to foster friendly competition and determine the top-performing company. Mrs. Schettini’s 3rd grade AMP (Advanced Math Placement) class is building a thinking classroom—and the energy is contagious! Students are given a challenge, randomly grouped, and encouraged to solve the problem using any strategy they choose. SLW Centennial High School recently held boot camps for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, targeting students in the bottom quartile. The 9th and 10th grade boot camp focused on ELA students, while the 11th grade boot camp was dedicated to History students. We are excited to announce that Caroline Andersen, a senior athlete from SLW Centennial High School, has been chosen to participate in the 15th annual FACA Senior All-Star Flag Football Showcase. Southport Middle School’s Athletic Department held a sports banquet in honor of all our student athletes. Southport’s Athletic Department was created to promote academics through sports and school involvement. The night of the banquet demonstrated school culture where family, friends, coaches, and players all come together to celebrate their player’s achievements. The Orlando Science Center Visits Lawnwood

The Orlando Science Center visited for an in-school field trip at Lawnwood Elementary School. 5th-grade students were able to participate in various science labs to deepen their understanding and skills. These hands-on experiences provided students with several real-world examples as connections were made. One example of this was the rollercoaster lab. In the rollercoaster lab, students discussed kinetic and potential energy, friction, and gravity as they considered how rollercoasters move. Students in Mrs. Boham’s STEAM class at SLWK8 designed balloon cars to learn about Newton’s laws of motion, potential and kinetic energy, energy transfer, and alternative fuels. Thanks to our outstanding science teachers, our Sharks already knew all about Newton’s Laws of Motion or Inertia.
