Open House – March 22

As 8th graders in St. Lucie Public Schools, we know you are excited to start your high school journey.  You should have received a high school assignment card, and we want to remind you to attend the open house at your new high school on Wednesday, March 22nd at 6:00 pm.   Learn about the course selections, see the school, and meet the staff.   We look forward to welcoming you as our new freshmen class.

Exceptional Performances by Concert Bands

Eleven concert bands from throughout St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) participated in the District 13 Concert Band Music Performance Assessments (MPAs) this past weekend. At this assessment, the ensembles perform on Stage 3 prepared numbers for three judges.  One selection must be a march.  Students leave the stage and go into the Sight Reading room.  They are handed a booklet that resembles the booklet that students receive when taking FSAs.  They are directed to different passages in the booklet.  The director is allotted a small amount of time to give brief directions, and the bands are then expected to “sight read” … Read More

Northport Celebrates Dr. Seuss and Read Across America!

What a wonderful morning @Northport K-8 School. We hosted a notable group of community service members who really care about our school. We partnered with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Saint Lucie County and Americorps to bring the very best learning experience to our VPK-grade through three students. Guest readers included PSL Mayor Greg Oravec, SLPS Board Members Debbie Hawley and Troy Ingersoll, Commisioner Tod Mowery, Star Bright Reading Therapy dogs and their handlers, many members of BBBS and our wonderful volunteers from Port St. Lucie United Methodist Church. Hall Places at State Wrestling Tournament

St. Lucie Public Schools congratulates David Hall who represented Fort Pierce Westwood and the District in the State Wrestling Tournament this weekend. David upset a number one seed in the first round in an unbelievable match; he then went on to win 6th place in the State Meet!  David was the only wrestler from St. Lucie County to place at the meet. Congratulations to David, Coach Torres, Coach Bama, and the entire wrestling team for a great season and for representing Westwood with Panther Pride!

Former Mariposian Studies to Become a Future Teacher

Former student, Mark Jattan, comes back to Mariposa Elementary to shadow teachers. Mark is seen here with his former fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Sarah Letsch. Mark is interested in becoming a teacher and is currently attending the University of Central Florida.  He would like to begin his career teaching at the elementary school that started it all for him. He has a great deal of fond memories from Mariposa and would like to continue that tradition for the upcoming generation of Mariposians.

Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Black History Month Color Guard

  Black History Month Color Guard By: Sarai Narvaez The Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC cadets were excited to present the colors and be part of the Black History month program at Port Saint Lucie High School. Cadet Sergeant First Class De’vonte Cousar led the Color Guard presenting the national flag, Cadet Commander Sergeant Major Damilola Joloagun presented the state flag, and standing as the guards were Cadet Major Dallas Reyes and Cadet Staff Sergeant Marco Nader. Bayshore’s Odyssey of the Mind Team Places Second

Bayshore Elementary’s Odyssey of the Mind Team competed on Saturday, February 25, and received 2nd place! The team created a humorous story about a family that brings home an “Odd-a-Bot.” Instead of being programmed to perform tasks, this Odd-a-Bot robot learned from watching others. The team designed an original robot character that demonstrated human characteristics when performing tasks. In the performance, the Odd-a-Bot character moved and learned human actions from watching characters perform activities such as household chores, singing, and dancing. Ariana White, an eighth grade student at Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition, will serve as a Page for State Representative Gayle Harrell in the upcoming Legislative Delegation session in Tallahassee, March 6-10. The exciting news came in an acceptance letter from Clerk Portia Palmer of the Florida House of Representatives. As a participant in this time-honored program, White will fulfill duties as a Page during committee meetings, House sessions, and press conferences. She will have opportunities to participate in tours of the Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, and other historic sites with other program participants.

High Impact Teachers Recognized by Florida Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart

AT&T Donates $2,000

Mr. Ian Cotner, Regional Director for AT&T, presented a $2,000 check to the Education Foundation as part of the corporation’s effort to support STEM education and provide experimental learning opportunities for students. The funds will be used to support Career and Technical Education and middle school drone programs.
