White City Elementary School congratulates first grader Madison Maclachlan in Ms. Bianchi’s class! Madison was the school-wide top fundraiser for Jump Rope for Heart! Madison raised $370. This money is donated to the American Heart Association whose primary mission is to help “build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.” We are so proud of you Madison!

It is with great pleasure that Northport hosted Yvonne Meyerson, Philanthropic Advisor for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in the media center recently. Students have been learning all about Sickle Cell disease and how prevalent the disease is within our own community. The “Project Tough Kookie” program was initiated at Northport two years ago by Marie Solide, ESE instructor, who lost her daughter Kookie following a long battle with Sickle Cell Disease. Hobe Sound Nature Center visited the fourth graders at Mariposa Elementary. The center brought an owl for students to study and look at the world of raptors, while examining closely the adaptions of owls. Mrs. Jennifer Scipioni’s students learned about these adaptations through a hands-on activity investigating owl pellets. During this exciting lab activity, the students learned about food chains, ecology, and natural history. The lab activity produced small skeleton parts from rodents, birds, and more. The fourth graders were very excited to be able to take home these discoveries!
Floresta Elementary students participated in a Math Literacy Night at Publix Supermarket. The students completed a scavenger hunt using real world money problems. The students had a great time going “shopping” and learned a lot about real money problems.
Are you smarter than a seventh grader? Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s seventh grade team hosted a fun informational session for parents and students. They competed with FSA and EOC type questions…and the student team won in all four rooms! Way to go Rockets!
Kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition celebrated the joining of the letters Q and U as in “quack” and “quick.” They also held a ceremony for other consonants that frequently go together in words such as sh, ch, wh and th. What a beautiful occasion to commemorate these unions.
Students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition in first and second grades enjoyed reading to their families. This is an annual “Read to Your Sweetheart” celebration and the students love sharing their favorite books with their family and friends. Their love for reading is wonderful!
The GEMS Club of Lawnwood Elementary recently donated cases of water that will be transported to the residents of Flint, Michigan.
Ms. Mellion’s students at Allapattah Flats K-8 were engaged in African American History Month using informational texts about Jackie Robinson. Students worked together in groups to become experts on certain parts of his life. They presented to the class their circle maps as well as shared facts they had researched about him. Second graders loved learning about this important historical figure in American History.

The Bulldog defense only allowed one goal in four games and provided the opportunities for hat tricks from both team captains – Javier Salgado and Diego Gonzalez. Mario Bello, Jesus Avila, and Roselis Mocteczuma also scored goals to lead the Bulldogs to their first championship.
Congratulations to the Lincoln Park Academy Math Team on a great finish Saturday, February 13th, at Suncoast Community High School’s February Regional Mu Alpha Theta Math Competition. Eighth graders Callie Zheng, Sreya Banik, and Yanan Lin took home the third place trophy in the Geometry Team division. Callie also finished in 8th place as an individual. In the Calculus division, seniors Geoffrey Zheng, Carlos Arce, Jason Dennis, and junior Bradley Gilrane finished in third place with Geoffrey placing 2nd overall as an individual. Fathers at Frances K. Sweet had the opportunity to come out for our Second Annual Father Daughter Ball. All of the girls and dads were dressed in their fanciest clothes and danced the night away. Pictured are many of the girls showing their dads how it should be done.
Literacy Week was a success! Students participated in daily Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) time. Students got cozy with a good book! Pictured are Cameron Wright, Josue Ajucum, and Abigail Santiago. We also had first grade teddy bear picnics, a third grade vocabulary parade, fourth grade guest readers, as well as “Going Bananas for Reading” and book exchanges at Mariposa. Mrs. Delancy’s third grade class also met up with Mrs. Smith’s second graders to read books and create bookmarks for literacy week! So at Manatee Academy that means families come out on a chilly Saturday morning and enjoy free world-famous, yummy chocolate-chip pancakes (by Chef Remington in pink), juice, prizes, and our fabulous library! ST. LUCIE COUNTY — Nardi Routten, a fourth grade instructor at F.K. Sweet Elementary and Glenna Sigmon, a first grade instructor at Palm Point Educational Research School at Tradition have been selected to be part of an elite pool of 40 professional educators from across the state of Florida to participate in the Florida Teacher Leader Fellowship Program. The University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning partnered with the Center for Teaching Quality (CTQ) to host this program. ST. LUCIE COUNTY — The district grade awarded to St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) increased from a C to a B this year. This is a significant accomplishment despite the fact that learning gains were not included in the calculations. It is important to note that two SLPS realized multi-grade increases: Rivers Edge Elementary moved from a D to an A and Morningside Elementary advanced from a C to an A. An additional six schools also increased their school grade rating. Treasure Coast High School Students Encourage Second Graders to Recycle As part of their community service project for Skills U.S.A., Arielly Dias, Arthur Waddell, and Olivia Wallman visited several of the elementary schools in St. Lucie County including Palm Pointe, Bayshore, and Manatee in an attempt to emphasize the positive effects that recycling has on a community and its environment. Through an interactive presentation, second grade students learned that recycling is creative and fun.
