VPK Wildcats in Ms. Buescher’s class have worked hard all year! Students have learned letters, sounds, beginning reading strategies, numbers, addition and subtraction, science, social skills and more! We are so proud to move you up to Kindergarten next year! Congratulations to the VPK class of 2016!
Students in all grades at WCE chipped in their quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies to help the charitable organization (The March of Dimes). The March of Dimes uses funds collected to fund research to help prevent premature births. We are so proud of all who contributed!
The kindergarten classes at White City Elementary have been studying community helpers. To culminate their units, students were visited by Leland Karlson, a Fort Pierce Utilities Authority employee. Mr. Karlson visited each classroom, and explained the dangers of playing with kites by electrical wires. He also told the students that they should report any wires that are on the ground to an adult and not touch them. Mr. Karlson brought with him a giant display. Students were able to see up close the dangers of playing on or around power lines.
Students in Mrs. Irby’s and Mr. Tuner’s Kindergarten classes got a special visit in honor of World Read Aloud Day (February 24, 2016). Using Skype video calling technology, picture book author Stacy McAnulty read aloud from her newest book Excellent Ed. Students were able to ask questions and have them answered by the author. She then gave book recommendations to the students. A fun, engaging, time was had by all!
On Friday February 25, 2016, White City Elementary recognized students for the character trait of the month: Perseverance. When you persevere, you continue trying to do your best even though something is difficult. Wildcats, we are so very proud of you and know you will continue to do great things!
White City Elementary School congratulates first grader Madison Maclachlan in Ms. Bianchi’s class! Madison was the school-wide top fundraiser for Jump Rope for Heart! Madison raised $370. This money is donated to the American Heart Association whose primary mission is to help “build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.” We are so proud of you Madison!
White City celebrates integrity at this month’s citizen of the month ceremony. A student in each class was selected by the teacher for demonstrating the character trait of integrity. Integrity is showing good moral character, being honest, doing the right thing consistently and meeting challenges with a good attitude. Wildcats, we are so very proud of you!
The students in Mrs. Irby’s Kindergarten class celebrated the 100th day of school with fun 100th day activities. Students counted ten groups of ten pictures and glued them on strips to make hats, created eye glasses with 100 pieces, read 100th day books, sorted 100 words, and participated in many other activities!
Kindergarten students at White City Elementary dove deep to extend their learning of sea turtles. Students in Mr. Capozzoli’s science resource classes discussed traits of a sea turtle, measured length of a turtle model, and examined models for damage caused by humans. Our kindergarten students are “surfing to excellence.”
A wonderful breakfast was served by Principal Roberto Bonsenor and Assistant Principal Simmie Burns. Staff were treated to eggs, sausage, toast, grits, and pastries. All of the Wildcats are so thankful for a great Administrative Team!
