SLW Centennial recently hosted a vibrant International Festival, celebrating the rich diversity of the school community. Teachers and students enthusiastically set up tables showcasing games, food, and activities representing their countries. The event created a lively and educational atmosphere. Students in Melissa Dixon’s seventh grade science classes at St. Lucie West K8 School regularly buddy up with students in Sarah Rivas’s fifth grade classes to discuss science and conduct scientific investigations. While many might have enjoyed a summer “get-away” at the end of the 2013 school year, Cindy Hill, Fran Casner, and colleagues in the school district’s Facilities Department planned real-world, first job experiences for Career and Technical Education (CTE) summer interns. As in past years, the 2013 Summer Internship Program proved to be a great experience for 17 St Lucie Public Schools students. After weeks of research and debate about the candidates, the students in Pam Bryant’s fourth grade class at Windmill Point Elementary School voted for President. Students enjoyed learning about the voting process, the terminology, and the significance of elections in our country. With this experience happening only every four years, it was an excellent teachable moment about history. The students really enjoyed learning about the voting process and all that it entails and are looking forward to the day that they will get to cast their votes.

Students at St. Lucie Elementary recently participated in a Jump Rope for Heart event. While exercising and having fun they also raised money for the American Heart Association.

 Students in grades Pre-K-5 at Savanna Ridge Elementary participated in a learning and enjoyable presentation on Water Safety. Presenters Bill and Jamie Wagner along with their special assistant “Bobber the Water Safety Dog from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shared with the students the importance of these skills through cartoon videos, lecturing and interactive Q & A. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition dressed up as their heroes for a donation of $1.00 for the American Heart Association.  This is an organization the school helps each year.  This was one of several events planned to help this worthwhile cause.  Pictured are students in first and second grade.

Firefighters Daniel Torres and Sam Saxton had a presentation with Kindergarten and First Grade Students to talk about the many jobs of a firefighter and how kids can practice fire safety. They showed students what firefighters wear, the tools they use, and the different types of trucks they operate. They also went over fire safety and how students can practice being safety smart at home such as creating a fire exit plan with families. Students were excited to receive their little red fireman hats during the presentation.  

Students at Oak Hammock K8 School participated in an after school PBiS event. To participate in this activity, students had to have earned 10 Osprey dollars and have no referrals for an allotted period. Students enjoyed dancing, a tattoo station, arts and crafts, pizza, and cupcakes. A good time was had by all who participated.

Mrs. Moore’s and Mrs. Eibl’s second and third grade classes got together to research and then recreate the Macy’s Day Parade. Students enjoyed writing the script, searching for pictures that represent their favorite parts of the holiday tradition and then starring in and editing their creation.  Video Presentation  

Students at CAST observed National Stop Bullying Day by wearing blue for the day, and by having Ms. Skinner, our School Mental Health Counselor, visit various classrooms throughout the morning. CAST Middle Students participated in an engaging activity to remind them of the importance of choosing our words carefully and how to treat others with Kindness.  Students even signed a “Kindness takes Courage” Banner as a commitment to continue thinking of others and be kind to others even when no one is watching.  The lesson was a great reminder to students as they started their week.  A special Thank you … Read More

Teachers and students alike enjoyed the Positive Behavior Support dance recently at Frances K. Sweet Elementary.  Students from kindergarten to fifth grade came together for this after school dance. Lakewood Park Elementary students and parents had the opportunity to explore the world of math in real-world situations by attending a family math night at a local grocery store. The students had a taste of reality while walking around the store working out math problems and figuring which food deals were the best economically. After students completed the activity, they received a free homework pass. Parents and guests listened to some holiday music while shopping presented by Angela Moretti’s Lakewood Park Elementary chorus, and parents also had an opportunity to do their grocery shopping and the store manager gave away door prizes. Lakewood Park … Read More

Although Josiah Fullwood is a first-time kindergartner who is scheduled to attend Frances K. Sweet, he has already made a huge impression on teachers at Village Green Environmental Studies School during the opening professional development day.
