59th Annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida Winners

Recently hundreds of students participated in our Regional STEM Fair held in St. Lucie County. STEM education includes every field under the umbrella of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – everything from chemistry to physics, software design to trigonometry. From this academic showcase, individuals participated in the 59th Annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida held in Lakeland in April. St. Lucie Public Schools proudly celebrates its 26 schools that were recently recognized as Five Star Schools in recognition of their community service. The Five Star School Award was created by the Commissioner’s Community Involvement Council and is presented annually to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement. In order to earn Five Star School recognition, a school must show documentation that it has achieved 100 percent of the established criteria in the following categories. 4th Grade Science at Village Green

Ms. Cole’s 4th graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School had some classroom fun comparing and contrasting life cycles of Florida plants and animals, such as those that undergo incomplete and complete metamorphosis, and flowering and nonflowering seed-bearing plants. Students were using their notes, science books, and charts to create Venn diagrams out of hula hoops of incomplete and complete metamorphosis of two insects.  They had to create 3-dimensional models of each stage and write the name of the stage and what occurs during that stage of the life cycle. 4th Grade Mathematical Thinking at Morningside Elementary

At Morningside Elementary School, Mrs. Wright’s 4th-grade students are diving deep into mathematics by exploring place value concepts through an engaging Wipebook activity. This hands-on experience allowed students to compare, multiply, and divide multi-digit whole numbers while actively applying their knowledge. 4th Grade Mariners Earn Incentives While Working Virtually

Weatherbee 4th grade teacher, Klay Robbins, recently mailed a letter to each of his students to check on their progress in Math, Science, and i-Ready. He included “necklace money” in the correspondence – the classroom currency his students can earn and trade for a variety of beaded necklaces. Many students wrote back and one student, Eduardo, included his photo –  he was thrilled to be earning his ‘necklace money” even as he worked virtually!  

4th Grade is Magnetic at APF

Chandler Snowden, Wyatt Clayton, and Cory Rendell are future Electric Engineers who are trying to determine how to effectively increase the strength of an electromagnet at Allapattah Flats.

4th Annual Shop with a Titan Event

For the 4th year in a row, the Titan Ambassadors from Treasure Coast High School hosted Shop with a Titan at Target in Tradition. This year, the students and staff at the participating schools raised over $3000 and were able to take 30 students holiday shopping!

4th Annual Kimberly Pearson Memorial Beach Clean-Up

Fort Pierce Central High School students along with students and employees from throughout the district met on another postcard-perfect morning at Pepper Park on Saturday, February 25th. This morning was going to be more than a beautiful beach day, it was the 4th Annual Kimberly Pearson Memorial Beach Clean-Up. Ms. Pearson was a Marine Science teacher at FPC who loved students, loved the ocean, and loved learning. Her life-long love of inspiring others continues as her legacy shines brightly. 4th Annual Early Childhood Learning Conference

$40,000 Farm to School Award

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – A $40,000 boost in funding is awarded by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) Child Nutrition Services. This is part of the Florida Farm to School Award Program Grant according to Director of Child Nutrition Services Deborah Wuest. “We are so excited to receive this funding.
