Mrs. Schettini’s 3rd grade AMP (Advanced Math Placement) class is building a thinking classroom—and the energy is contagious! SLW Centennial High School recently held boot camps for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, targeting students in the bottom quartile. The Orlando Science Center Visits Lawnwood

The Orlando Science Center visited for an in-school field trip at Lawnwood Elementary School. 5th-grade students were able to participate in various science labs to deepen their understanding and skills. These hands-on experiences provided students with several real-world examples as connections were made. One example of this was the rollercoaster lab. In the rollercoaster lab, students discussed kinetic and potential energy, friction, and gravity as they considered how rollercoasters move. Students in Mrs. Boham’s STEAM class at SLWK8 designed balloon cars to learn about Newton’s laws of motion, potential and kinetic energy, energy transfer, and alternative fuels.
