Allapattah Flats congratulates middle school spelling bee winners

The Allapattah Flats school familycongratulates the top two students in the Middle School Spelling Bee.  The competition was strenuous as the students were extraordinary spellers, full of the competitive spirit. Gabrielle Bather and Jaime Hilaire were the top two middle school competitors with Jaime Hilaire staking his claim as first place winner. Congratulations to all students who participated, you did a fantastic job! Good luck to Jaime who will go on to participate in the district spelling bee. Pictured are Jaime, right, and Gabrielle.

Allapattah Flats concert band prepares for year’s final concert

The concert band of Allapattah Flats K-8 School is preparing for its end of the year concert under the direction of Elyse Larkins.  In class, band members are working diligently to produce a good tone on their instrument by using air support.  With this technique, students will develop a high quality sound.  Along with learning the characteristics of tone of their instrument, band members are learning how to play their music expressively by using dynamics and phrasing.  Pictured, from left, Brenda Villarroel, Scott Barnhart, and Lindsey Allgire.                                

Allapattah Flats celebrates Hispanic heritage

Allapattah Flats K8 recently held its annual Hispanic Heritage Night. Guests who attended were treated to an authentic Hispanic dish, student performances from band and chorus, a student dance performance that crossed grade levels, and a student PowerPoint presentation on a notable Hispanic figure. Guests were also taught how to create a PowerPoint in 12 simple steps from technology instructor John Koch.  The event was very student-oriented, as behind the scenes students were video recording the performances and running the lights and sound. Allapattah Flats Ag Students Prepare for Fair 2023

After school is a busy time for Allapattah Flats’ middle school students in Mrs. Dru Thompson’s Agriscience class.  Students are raising cattle, swine (pigs), goats, and chickens to show at the St. Lucie County Fair.  Good luck Gators!

Allapattah Flats 8th Graders Attend College

Allapattah Flats’ eighth grade students recently went on a tour of IRSC. They were able to speak to advisors, college professors, and even were given a planetarium show. It was an motivational and eye opening experience for aspiring college students.

Allapattah Flats’ 2nd Graders Measure Up!

Ms. Mellion’s 2nd graders used rulers they created to measure all around their classroom. Students worked in groups to create a list of classroom objects along with height (inches) in their Math Interactive Notebooks. They are currently working on measuring the length of objects by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tape.

Allapattah first graders join in healthy movement

First grade students at Allapattah Flats K-8 recently enjoyed a visit from the Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast to learn about nutrition and healthy eating. Students learned about the food pyramid, healthy eating habits, and the importance of exercise. Allapattah elementary students give one last performance

Selected third through fifth grade students from Danya Etter’s music class at Allapattah Flats K-8 participated in the end of the year, “An Adventure in Music,” spring concert. The program consisted of  a variety of songs from “You Raise Me Up” and Somewhere Over the Rainbow to  Boogie Woogie, and “Beethoven’s Wig”. The concert was a success. All the World’s a Stage!

The Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie (CAST) was thrilled to spotlight the school’s programs as the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce offered community leaders the opportunity to participate in an Executive Academy Leadership Day. Student ambassadors served as school history narrators and tour guides of the historic auditorium, the black box theater, and the dance studio.

SHELDON RILEY AND JAMES WEICHMANN of Fort Pierce Westwood High School captured 3rd place in the Fresh from Florida Student Chef Cook-off Finale in Tallahassee, FL. Sheldon and James prepared their Raw Kale Pasta Salad with a Strawberry Vinaigrette and Chipotle Chicken. The trip to Tallahassee was a great learning experience for the entrepreneurial chefs. The day was highlighted with a tour of the capital and Ag Day Exhibit with Chef Paula.

All County Chorus on the air again

In celebration of Music in Our Schools Month, over 120 elementary students from st. Lucie County public schools descended on the WLX Education Channel tv studio to record the annual Elementary All County Chorus. This year’s theme was Agents of Change! As a Kids at Hope Community, schools throughout the county have the support of numerous community groups and organizations to welcome students back to school with a Tunnel of Hope. The tunnel symbolizes the affirmation and inspiration for students’ success in school.

All Children are Capable of Success at Dale Cassens!

Dale Cassens Educational Complex celebrated National Kids at Hope Day by creating a tunnel of hope made of various community members from Ft. Pierce and Port St. Lucie. These special caring adults cheered students on and held signs reading “You can Succeed,” as they as they arrived to school on November 25th. The students then participated in a Fall Festival which included “Minute to Win It” events and a giant blow-up obstacle course. Every child was able to acquire tickets throughout the day for drawings of prizes at the conclusion of the event.

Algebra Tile Fun at LPA

Mrs. Porter’s Accelerated 7th Grade Math students at Lincoln Park Academy enjoyed using algebra tiles during an introductory lesson for solving equations. Students modeled equations and wrote equations for models. Then students used the tiles to solve one-variable equations. The students look forward to deepening their understanding of equations using the algebra tiles.

Algebra Bootcamp to Boost Student Success at Fort Pierce Central High School

Last week, Fort Pierce Central’s 9th-grade Algebra students participated in their first Bootcamp of the year, held after school. The session focused on reinforcing essential concepts such as compound inequalities, literal equations, and linear functions. These targeted review sessions are designed to strengthen understanding, build confidence, and ensure students stay on track for academic success. Algebra is a foundational subject for higher-level math and critical thinking. Hosting multiple bootcamps throughout the year allows students to revisit challenging topics, close learning gaps, and prepare for upcoming assessments. Aleshia Johnson Shares Positive Experiences

The Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year and 2017 FPWHS graduate Aleshia Johnson shared her positive experiences in school and with the Boys and Girls Clubs at a recent realtors meeting. Aleshia gave credit to her teachers and mentors for support and inspiration along her admirable academic journey.  In turn, she has and will continue to be a motivator for others as she volunteers and actively continues to provide service to the Boys and Girls Clubs as a leader. We wish her great success in her next chapter of collegiate studies.
