Our Santa Breakfast was a delightful way to kick off the holiday season! Families came together to enjoy a morning filled with festive music and cheer as our talented students performed classic Christmas songs. Santa himself made a special appearance, bringing smiles and excitement to everyone. Students also got creative by making beautiful Christmas crafts to take home, adding a personal touch to their holiday décor. Allapattah Flats Honors Aces and Veterans for Kids at Hope Day

The Allapattah Flats family celebrated National Kids at Hope Day in conjunction with Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 12th. To honor all of our service personnel for our city, county, state, and country, Allapattah Flats proudly conducted a Tunnel of Honor. The entire school of over 1000 students and staff lined the school walkway, waving American flags and cheering for veterans, first responders, police, deputies, firefighters and Coast Guardsmen as they walked through the tunnel. Allapattah Flats helping with Indian River Lagoon Restoration

Seventh grade students at Allapattah Flats K-8 have been given the opportunity to participate in an Indian River Lagoon restoration project through 4H.  Students have been studying the effects of runoff water on the lagoon and have learned about various biological controls such as oyster beds.  Students attended a field trip in which they were able to participate in four stations that each taught them an important part of Indian River Lagoon preservation.  The first station allowed them to observe specimens of the various types of sea life present in the lagoon.  In the next they completed a data collection … Read More

Allapattah Flats girls basketball team scores big

Allapattah Flats K8 School  girls basketball team hosted the girls’ “A” Division county tournament recently. The girls team won both games giving up only seven points in two games and scoring 61. This has put them as the # 1 seed in the final four championships that will be played on April 14th at Fort Pierce Central High School. Allapattah Flats fourth graders visit St. Augustine

Fourth grade students at Allapattah Flats K-8 School have spent the school year learning about Florida’s history as part of their Social Studies curriculum. As a culminating activity, the fourth graders recently took a field trip to St. Augustine. The students were able to visit the Old Jail, Florida Heritage museum, Fort Castillo de San Marcos, Historic St. George Street, and ride on a narrated trolley tour. Allapattah Flats fourth graders experiment with the scientific process

As part of their science program, students in Crystal Cade’s fourth grade Response to Intervention group at Allapattah Flats K-8 School recently learned about the scientific method. The students discussed the role of a scientist and the importance of scientific investigations. The students identified the steps necessary to complete a scientific investigation. As a culminating activity, the students completed an inquiry activity in which they used the scientific method to create lava in a cup. Allapattah Flats first graders studying geometry

First grade students at Allapattah Flats K8 are springing into geometry!  To go along with their study of three-dimensional shapes, students were asked to bring in objects from home that represented three-dimensional shapes. These objects were displayed and students took a tour as they identified the faces, edges, and vertices of the spheres, cylinders, cones, rectangular prisms, and square pyramids. The children were so excited to see their math relate to the real world! Allapattah Flats First Graders Get Their Gardens Started

First Graders at Allapattah Flats K-8 took their first steps in earning their green thumb!  First graders are learning how to create a garden.  Our first step was to prepare the garden by adding a fresh layer of soil.  Elijah Adorno and Veneah Mussenden used their sense of touch while spreading out the soil.  The students will plant vegetable seeds next. We can’t wait!

Allapattah Flats first graders get fire safety tips

First graders at Allapattah Flats K-8 are investigating about fire safety with the help of retired Indian River County Fire Department Battalion Chief John Freeman.  Mr. Freeman read an informational text about firefighters and their responsibilities. He also brought his bunker gear including a helmet, boots, pants, coat, and gloves to show the first graders how firefighters stay safe. Students vigorously asked him questions about his gear, job, and his bravery.

Allapattah Flats first graders celebrate Literacy Week

Allapattah Flats first graders become gardeners

First grade students in Ann Hartman’s class at Allapattah Flats K8 are excited to explore their garden in the warm sun. Students are checking the progress of their peppers, cucumbers, carrots, peas, and many other plants. Each child has a “plot” to grow their plant of choice, beginning with just a seed that has resulted in beautiful plants! The students are responsible for watering and weeding the plants, too.  The garden is a huge hit at Allapattah Flats K8! Allapattah Flats students test household items for fire safety

Allapattah Flats fifth grade students use the steps of the scientific method to determine which household items, such as nail polish remover, vinegar, and tiki torch fluid, would continue to burn when put in water. This activity enhanced students’ learning about scientific inquiry and also prepared them for creating their own scientific investigations. Allapattah fifth graders have been learning and identifying different natural disasters. Students were recently visited by fire-medic Josh O’Brien from Martin County Fire Rescue. Students learned about fire extinguishers, how to plan for an emergency at home, how to exit a smoke filled room safely, and the special equipment needed for a firefighter to stay safe during a fire. They were also given the opportunity to solve mock emergency situations. Fire-Medic O’Brien spoke to the students about the importance of fire safety and the dangers of not taking the issue seriously. Allapattah Flats fifth graders learn about conservation at Oxbow

Fifth grade students from Allapattah Flats K8 School recently visited the Oxbow Eco-center in Port Saint Lucie. The Oxbow staff presentations provided students with information about the importance of water-conservation, nature preservation and the maintenance of “natural Florida”. During their visit, students had the unique opportunity to enhance their understanding of Florida’s complex eco-system through the use of hands-on activities and animated presentations. On Wednesday, May 20th, 3 FFA members from the Allapattah Flats FFA Chapter competed in the Virtual Vegetable Evaluation contest. These students had to identify vegetables, insects, and weeds from pictures they were given on the exam. The team placed 3rd in the state and Elizabeth Rufo placed high individual for the contest. These students worked very hard and we are beyond proud of them. The team consisted of Elizabeth Rufo, Laurence Blankenbaker, and Jaden Pizzarro. Allapattah Flats elementary students learn to play recorders karate style

Students in Danya Etter’s music class at Allapattah Flats K8 are currently working towards their “black belt” in recorder for Recorder Karate. Recorder Karate is a fun and exciting way to learn all about the instrument and after playing each song, one can earn a different belt color as in karate. This week the fifth graders focused on the popular classic “Ode to Joy” by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Once they master the art of the song, they will begin to test for their black belt.
