Congratulations to West Gate K – 8

Seventh graders in Mrs. Lauren Kappler’s West Gate K-8 Civics class won first place accolades in the St. Lucie Public Schools Project Citizen Showcase.  Their project entitled Don’t Panic will compete at the State level and is currently on display at the Capital where legislators will serve on judging panels for a final evaluation of all projects by late May.

This past week, Superintendent E. Wayne Gent, kept his promise by celebrating the Class of 2020 with live in-person graduations at Lawnwood Stadium. The Class of 2020 will go down in history by being the first graduating class to have not one but two graduations.  The first was a virtual graduation in May followed by the graduations held last week. St. Lucie County’s public transportation system – Area Regional Transit (ART) – recently announced a countywide Call to Artists. In partnership with the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance, Area Regional Transit invited local artists to submit images of their artwork for display on the exterior of the county buses. The opportunity was designed with a youth preference, and CAST is proud to announce that Daniella SanJuan (7th grade) and Rayley Sheltra (8th grade), students in Mrs. Grasso’s middle school Graphic Arts class, were 2 of 6 student artists chosen to have their work displayed on a St. Lucie County ART bus! Congratulations to Project Citizen Teams!

St. Lucie Public Schools congratulates teams from Lincoln Park Academy, Manatee Academy, and West Gate K8.  Each school’s Project Citizen entry advanced to the state primary competition, and teams were invited to participate in the state finals of Project Citizen. Through the use of technology, students were able to virtually present to the judges in north Miami.
