The Port St. Lucie High School’s Drill Team competed in the W. T. Dwyer High School Drill Meet on Saturday February 3rd. Competing in platoon, squad, and exhibition drill and winning in several categories, the Jaguars placed in the top three. The Jaguars will continue to practice for their next meet at Seminole Ridge High School Drill meet.
Congratulations to Clarissa Duskin, ESOL/Title III Program Manager for St. Lucie Public Schools. Clarissa is serving on the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE) Executive Board. FORT PIERCE, FL – An innovative partnership that has been in development for several months is literally taking off on Wednesday, May 11 at Adams Arena in Fort Pierce as middle school students compete for top honors by navigating drones through a maze. In a joint venture with the Treasure Coast Research Park, AT&T, and St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS), 18 drones were donated to support inquiry programs at Dan McCarty Middle School, Samuel S. Four students from Russel Bolig’s civics class earn first place in the Allapattah Flats K8 Project Citizen showcase. The winning project Driving Miss Daisy, discussed the topic of placing driving restrictions on drivers 70 and older. Nathan Hinkley, Brianna Cumberbatch, Janeliz Torres and Laura Carvalho presented a convincing case as to why they thought these restrictions would be beneficial to society. The two top projects advanced to the district Project Citizen Showcase held at Samuel Gaines Academy. On Saturday April 21, test drive a new Buick and help Port St. Lucie High School (PSLHS) located at 1201 SE Jaguar Lane in Port St. Lucie receive up to $10,000. Garber Buick GMC in Ft. Pierce will have new Buick vehicles at the school for this Test Drive Event from 8:00am-3:00pm. For each 2-3 minute Test Drive, Buick will donate $10.00. CAST has spirit, yes we do! Our students have loved showing their school spirit this week. The theme was Dream Makers: Arts, Academics, & Athletics. Students dressed up showing their favorite sports, arts, and what they would like to be in the future!
Superintendent E. Wayne Gent and the School Board Members for St. Lucie Public Schools enjoyed participating in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. This year’s theme was “Dream Forward: Choose Peace, Equality, and Change.”
St. Lucie West K8 Sharks collaborated to create an outstanding float for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. This year’s theme was Dream, Believe, Achieve. Thank you to all the dedicated staff and students who made this incredible vision come to life!
Drafting is the act of composing plans that visually communicate how something functions or is to be constructed. Also known as “technical drawing,” it is essential in industry and engineering for communicating ideas using common symbols, perspectives, units of measure, and page layout. This type of drawing is extremely precise vs. the forms of expressive drawing known as “visual arts.” Individuals who choose a career in Drafting and Illustrative Design work in construction, architecture, and engineering. Fifth grade students at Morningside Elementary learned all about body systems with hands-on activities including viewing how air expands real pig lungs, touching and seeing real animal organs, and learning where all the inner body systems are located. Finally, the students were shown how by tapping on the body, they could tell whether the body part was solid or hollow. The head sounded hollow much to the students’ surprise!
To honor the legacy of Dr. Seuss, students in Lisa Green’s second grade class at Mariposa Elementary School invited parents to read stories created by the famous author. When the parents arrived , the students were very surprised to see one of the parents dressed as The Cat in the Hat. His costume made the celebration come alive. The day turned out to be a great success as the students listened, read, and shared their projects on Dr. Seuss with their classmates and visitors. Northport and Big Brothers Big Sisters invites parents, police officers, firefighters, veterans along with our school and business community to hop on our schedule and come on over to NP to read some Dr. Seuss books to kids in our VPK through third grade classrooms. Dr. Kevin Perry, Assistant to the Superintendent, presented awards to the student winners of the 2015 Dr. Samuel S. Gaines Essay Contest at the school board meeting on April 28th. Students from third grade to twelfth grade wrote essays on an African American who has made a difference. The Morganti Group sponsors this essay contest each year with monetary awards to each winner in each category. Dr. Sam Gaines, local businessman and former School Board member, invited students from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy WEST Prep’s African American History class to tour his childhood home and business and share stories of local history. The students were mesmerized by the depth of historical accounts Dr. Gaines has and the familial knowledge of multiple generations of residents. Dr. Gaines shared his memories of a segregated Fort Pierce and the progress through his lifetime.
