On Saturday, October 24,  SLWK8 students competed as a team in the Future Chef Competition held in Ft. Pierce at the Green Market. Students competed against the local high schools and one other K-8 school in this event.   The Shark Chef Team (Casie Schulz,  Laravanessa Cano and Gabriella Quimby) showed well with their appetizer of Savory Shrimp Persimmon and Plum Skewers over Orange Ginger Jasmine Rice and served an entree of Banh Mi with Watermelon Salad.  The judges particularly enjoyed that many flavors from the market were showcased and added that our chefs exhibited outstanding culinary skills.       … Read More

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s  Elementary School Counselor, Summer Kuba  attended the Florida School Counselor Association Conference  and presented to school counselors around the state on best practices for implementing classroom guidance lessons, small group and individual counseling.  Her presentations included a focus on student anxiety, engaging students through interactive lessons, advocacy efforts, and elementary counseling techniques.

In Mrs. Kasey Ascani’s second grade class, students have been participating in a unit about “Who We Are As Americans.”  Students have learned about Native Americans and their contributions to our nation. In this activity, the class had to write three facts about Native Americans on each of their feathers and glue them to a head band they designed with symbols from that time period. Autumn Walk Mrs. Glenda Taylor’s first grade class took an autumn walk around the field behind our school.  Students used their five senses as tools to make careful observations. The students made records about the investigation.  Each child wrote the name of things he or she could see, hear, smell and touch.  Later, everyone tasted grapes and apple slices in our classroom. Pictured left to right are: Asheline Syril, Holly Howard, Uriah Morris, Jamael Gardner and Rihana Salel.

Weatherbee faculty and students wore pink on October 23rd for Breast Cancer Awareness.  Pictured here our the second grade teaching staff.

The lessons of patriotism, love of country and American flag and a healthy respect for our military are lessons that are taught over and over again at Northport VPK-8 School. Every morning, a different student signs up to recite the Pledge of Allegiance over the school intercom. Veteran Partners In Education are a strong component of the fabric of the school and local veterans are involved in many of the programs and activities that happen at the school. More pieces to the puzzle… At Gaines Academy, Mr. Davino’s 8th grade AVID students work with Ms. Calandra’s and Ms. Madalena’s classes during Autism Awareness Month. What a wonderful experience for all!

Gaines Academy students enjoyed sharing the Good News of Gaines at a community meeting held at New Destiny Family Worship Center on the evening of October 15th. Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition had a school-wide event sponsored by P.B.I.S. (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support). Students in grades K-8 participated in a Power Hour to raise money for their teachers’ classrooms. All the proceeds from the event will be used in the classrooms for rewards for students with positive behavior. Teachers buy items that their students can purchase with rocket fuel  they have earned. To help celebrate Florida City Government Week, Port St. Lucie Councilwoman Shannon Martin came to Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition to talk with students in the seventh grade. Councilwoman Martin talked with students about public policy and how the local government plays an important role in policies and legislation. Students also were able to ask the Councilwoman questions about their project topics for Project Citizen.  Pictured is Councilwoman Shannon Martin as she talks with the seventh grade students.
