Jaguars First 2017 Drill Meet at Jupiter Community High School By: Sarai Narvaez The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Drill Team competed in Jupiter Community High School’s Drill Competition against nine other schools on February 11th. The competition consisted of Armed Squad, Unarmed Squad, Armed Platoon, Unarmed Platoon, and Color Guard.  The Jaguars did incredibly well for their first competition. Moore Elementary School and SLPS extend appreciation and gratitude to Mrs. Frankie Sayles for her dedicated volunteer service and for her contributions to the education of children for thirty-three years.  In a special celebration on Friday, February 10, 2017, Mrs. Sayles was surrounded by children, school personnel, and community leaders as the Frankie Sayles Learning Center at C. A. Moore Elementary School was dedicated to her in honor of the support she has provided to countless children over the years.

SLW Centennial Medical Academy Students Learn How to Save a Life Using Hands-Only CPR

More than 117 Health Science A&P 10th and 11th grade students at St. Lucie West Centennial High School learned Hands-Only CPR this week. These students were taught by Mary Higgins’ First Responder and Dual Enrollment students. First Responder classes are available to students who have completed the Allied Health Program as a senior elective. First Responder students prepare for careers in emergency medicine by becoming CPR certified as Health Care Professionals, completing web based classroom instruction and skills in advanced first aid techniques, followed by a shadowing opportunity at various St. Lucie County Fire Stations. The students and staff at Fort Pierce Westwood High School welcomed Mr. Michael Carbenia, the director of Career & Technical Education, as a guest in the Speakers Bureau series. Mr. Carbenia opened his presentation with a PowerPoint used to describe the Career & Technical Education program. This night is dedicated to a long line of military time honored traditions. The Military Ball is a formal celebration for cadets followed by a time for the cadets to enjoy building camaraderie and dancing. Jaguar Cadets Participate in TC- MOAA Premier 5K Run-Walk

TC-MOAA 5K Run-Walk By: Sarai Narvaez The Treasure Coast Military Officers Association of America (TC-MOAA) conducted a JROTC premier 5K race and walk. The purpose of this event was to promote excellence in JROTC programs in St. Lucie and Martin Counties, community involvement, Veterans programs, and membership of the TC-MOAA. Three of our cadets participated in 5K race and walk. LPA Wins Top Individual Honors at MathCounts Competition

The Lincoln Park Academy Middle School Math Team participated in the annual MathCounts competition on Friday. Kendrick Carpenter took first place individual honors and will go on to compete at the state level on March 24th. Also among the top ten finishers was Malaica Ashley who finished in eighth place. Hilson Delivers Moving Message

During a recent Speakers Bureau Engagement, students at PACE Center for Girls were fortunate to hear encouraging words of School Board Member Carolyn Hilson. She empowered the girls to not let the adversity they have encountered hold them hostage as a victim and instead be a VICTOR. Our young ladies were moved by her words and are moving forward with a positive outlook on life. Thank you, Ms. Hilson, for your words of encouragement.

TCMOAA-JROTC 5K Run

Cadets from the Panther Battalion recently competed in the Treasure Coast Chapter Military Officer Association of America – JROTC 5K Run/Walk. The run was held on Saturday, February 4th in the Tradition area of Port Saint Lucie, Florida. A number of cadets assisted with the event by handing out refreshments, parking cars, and setting up for the event. The rest of the cadets competed in the run. SLW Centennial’s Athletic Director Becomes Certified as Master Athletic Administrator

SLW Centennial’s Athletic Director, Steven Ripley, has been awarded the CMAA Certification. CMAA is the acronym for Certified Master Athletic Administrator. He is now part of a very elite group of Athletic Administrators. Only five percent of all athletic directors in the United States have achieved the CMAA level. His dedication and commitment is impressive. We appreciate what he does for Centennial, the Athletic Department, and the student athletes.    

SLW Centennial Law Academy Students Present to Palm Pointe Civics Students

SLW Centennial Law Academy students presented a Mock Trial to over 120 Palm Pointe seventh grade Civics students. This was a collaborative effort between Mrs. Sandra Oliveira, Law Academy Coordinator, and Mrs. Lulkin and Mrs. Cruz, 7th grade Civics teachers, to enhance the learning experience for the seventh graders who are learning about the court system and the trial process. The Law Academy students prepared and presented the case. The seventh grade students were placed in jury groups to deliberate the outcome. SLWK-8 Band Director Selected

Ms. Jennifer Rosser, the band director and music teacher at St. Lucie West K-8 School, was honored with the opportunity to be the clinician for the Heartland Middle School Honor Band of Highlands County recently. The honor band consisted of the best band students from nearly 11 middle schools of the surrounding cities in the Highlands County area. Ms. Rosser rehearsed the band for a mere 12 hours of rehearsal over two days culminating in a concert the second evening at the Alan Jay Wildstein Center for the Performing Arts located on the South Florida State College campus. Centennial Freshmen Prepare for College and Career Success

On February 2, 2017, over one hundred 9th graders from St. Lucie West Centennial High School’s (SLWCHS) Freshman Academy visited the main campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. Students visited multiple class buildings, toured the football stadium, fitness center, student union, and many other facilities associated with academia and student life, and had question-and-answer sessions with helpful FAU staff. The trip was an overwhelming success, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the time they spent on campus. Panther Rifle Team Success

The Panther Battalion Rifle Team swept the competition at the 5th Annual McNair Memorial Air Rifle Match. The veteran team of Alex Rediker, Tae Frazier, Kirmille Joseph and Jose Cristales retained the McNair Cup for the 4th year in a row, posting a score of 1,034 points to defeat six other veteran teams. Alex Rediker was the match champion as well as 1st place award winner in prone and standing and a 3rd place finisher in kneeling out of 31 veteran shooters.
