  Black History Month Color Guard By: Sarai Narvaez The Port Saint Lucie High School JROTC cadets were excited to present the colors and be part of the Black History month program at Port Saint Lucie High School. Bayshore Elementary’s Odyssey of the Mind Team competed on Saturday, February 25, and received 2nd place! The team created a humorous story about a family that brings home an “Odd-a-Bot.” Instead of being programmed to perform tasks, this Odd-a-Bot robot learned from watching others. The team designed an original robot character that demonstrated human characteristics when performing tasks. In the performance, the Odd-a-Bot character moved and learned human actions from watching characters perform activities such as household chores, singing, and dancing. The exciting news came in an acceptance letter from Clerk Portia Palmer of the Florida House of Representatives. As a participant in this time-honored program, White will fulfill duties as a Page during committee meetings, House sessions, and press conferences. She will have opportunities to participate in tours of the Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, and other historic sites with other program participants.

What a first rate presentation by Lorena Wilson’s third grade Rising Stars! Students researched a famous Black American using several sources. They also made program guides and actual models of each famous American. Students then presented their oral information using note cards to visiting classes, parents, administration and other special guests. Students became teachers for the afternoon and really demonstrated authentic and intriguing information.
