Kiwanis Club makes donations to school media centers

The Sunrise Kiwanis Club of Fort Pierce made its annual contributions to school media centers at the April 10, 2012, St. Lucie County School Board meeting. Members of the club annually participate in reading during the Read Across America Day, which is around the birthday of the author of Dr. Seuss books, at local elementary schools. Kitchen Krawl

St. Lucie Public Schools partnered with Main Street Fort Pierce to connect downtown Fort Pierce businesses to the high and middle school culinary programs.  In mid-October, nine culinary teachers toured eight restaurants; Importico Bakery, Uncle Carlo’s Gelato, Taco Dive, 2nd Street Bistro, Subway, Sunrise City Café, The Bradford and the Cake Lady.  The whirlwind tour started at 3 PM with kitchen tours, sampling flagship dishes, historical tidbits, and moving on to the next stop.  The group was thrilled to see Fort Pierce Central and Fort Pierce Westwood culinary graduates in action —  one as hostess and one as restaurant owner!  … Read More

Kindness Week second place winners at Palm Pointe

Kindness Week Celebrated at Palm Pointe

Ms. Debra Snyder, Principal at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition along with Debborah Estrada, Dean of Discipline and Chairperson of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee proudly accept the Second Place trophy for Kindness Week.  Palm Pointe’s school-wide project involved collecting over 840 teddy bears from students and staff .  The “Teddies for Tots” were given to Sheriff Mascara to give out to children in crisis throughout the community.

Kindness ROCKS at FPC!

FPC Students Positively Rock! The 7th period students of Ms. Dowdy and Mrs. Santoro joined the week of April 12-16 for a uniquely positive community building project! Kindness Rocks was an afternoon alternative for students that had testing in the morning.  Students were encouraged to paint their kindness designs then hide the colorful rocks around campus for others to find. On Thursday, April 15th both classes (approx. 60 students) placed over 100 rocks all over campus. Kindergartners at Savanna Ridge Track Their Sight Words

Kindergartners in Mrs. Warren’s class proudly show off their sight word progress by tracking their achievement.  The teacher then conferences with students individually about where they are, and they set new sight word goals.  What a fun, interactive way to show what you know as you learn and grow.

Kindergartners at Allapattah Flats celebrate Dr. Seuss

Allapattah Flats K-8 kindergartners celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday with lots of events to emphasize the fun of reading. As part of the celebration, students participated in read-alouds featuring published books by Ted Geisel a.k.a. Dr. Seuss. Students had the opportunity to prepare and taste their own green eggs and ham, as well as dress up for Seuss Day. Kindergartners are inspired writers at Allapattah Flats K8

Reading Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer  inspired Nanette Serrano’s kindergarten class to put on their thinking caps and write about Rudolph. Students were excited to write about a reindeer that was different but broke down barriers to become a hero. The students did a great job of expressing their feelings about what they liked best. They shared their writings with their classroom peers and displayed them on the bulletin board for everyone to see. Pictured is inspired writer, Tyronique Johnson.

Kindergarten’s Kitchen Tour

Village Green’s Kindergarteners had a special backstage tour of the kitchen last week. They met the kitchen staff and were shown the different areas of the kitchen. Kindergartners learned about healthy foods and how to pick them in the lunchroom. The friendly cafeteria staff allowed them to watch as they cooked pizza. They also showed them the tools in the kitchen, the pantry, and the freezer. They ended their tour with a delicious slice of pizza! Thank you to Ms. Kinder and her wonderful staff for allowing our Kindergartners to explore your kitchen!    

Kindergartens Being Teachers at F. K. Sweet

Students in Melanie Francisco’s kindergarten class had a blast playing “Teacher For a Minute” while practicing addition/subtraction.  Jadia Tate used counters to solve the problem on Lyla St. Hilaire’s card.   This was a great activity including movement and communication skills with classmates.

Kindergartens at F. K. Sweet Have Fun with Dr. Seuss Stories

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Kourtney Burton’s class at Frances K. Sweet have been learning about Dr. Seuss and completing various activities to celebrate his many books. Students sampled green eggs and ham and then graphed whether or not they liked them. Students also wore silly socks for “Fox in Socks” and  crazy hats for “Cat in the Hat.” Pictured are from the left are Haylee Madden, Brooke Atkinson, and Gabriella Navas Ayala.

Kindergarteners at Frances K Sweet practice classifying

Kindergartners in Kristin Griffin’s class at Frances K. Sweet Elementary School practiced sorting and classifying leaves. After finding that the leaves could be sorted in a couple of different ways, the students were then asked to sort and classify in their favorite way, color, size, or shape. Kindergarten Students at Palm Pointe Learn about Bicycle Safety

Recently, the kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition spent some time learning about how to be a good citizen, and about the importance of rules. To enhance the lesson, Mrs. Rubel’s Kindergarten class had a visit from Chief Pruitt of the Jupter Inlet Colony Police Department. Chief Pruitt spoke to the students about the importance of rules and how they keep citizens safe. Chief Pruitt also discussed various safety topics such as: stranger safety, gun safety, fire safety, and bicycle safety. Kindergarten students pow-wow at Palm Pointe

The kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition had an old fashioned Indian Pow- Wow. Students and teachers dressed in Indian attire and went outside to do many activities. They played their handmade drums, they learned an Indian dance and participated in other centers while outside. Pictured are students listening to an Indian story which was one of the centers.

Kindergarten students in Melanie Francisco’s class at F.K. Sweet Elementary enjoy circle directed reading time instruction each day. Children are afforded an opportunity to come up and show what they have learned and Giovanna Manigeri is anxiously awaiting her turn to impress her classmates.

Kindergarten Students at Savanna Ridge Travel Back in Time With Their Writing

Students in Mrs. Warren’s Kindergarten classroom are learning about “People and Events of Now and Long Ago.”  Students compared and contrasted what school was like long ago versus now.  Then they had an opportunity to practice writing their name and drawing a picture with a quill feather and paint to replicate the tools used by students long ago.

Kindergarten Students at Oak Hammock K8 Learn about Voting During a Math Lesson

Kindergarten and 1st-grade students at OHK8 participated in a voting activity as they learned how to count tallies during math.  They stood in line to vote on a matter that was very meaningful to them, which food item they liked most, hamburgers or hotdogs. Each student had a laminated voter registration card to present to vote.  We talked about what it means to be a good citizen in our country.  After a long day at the polls, hotdogs won most votes.
