Inspired by contemporary and classical artists, the students’ work experiments with various lines, values and movements, creating incredibly intricate designs and sophisticated compositions. The Fort Pierce Branch Library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Wednesdays from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Fridays from          9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Mariposa Elementary students learn matter matters

Students in Maria Nunez’s fourth grade class at Mariposa Elementary are studying matter. Pictured, from left, Joslyn Patterson, Sydney Luppens, Faith White, Taline El-Khoury, Alanna Riverahad were asked to measure the  volume and mass of objects. Each station had a different activity exploring matter. For example, at one station, students had to find the volume of an irregular object using water displacement. Students were engaged and learned how to work as a team.

Matter matters to Allapattah Flats third graders

Third grade students at Allapattah Flats K8 School continue to demonstrate their scientific minds. Recently, students had an opportunity to travel to other classrooms and participate in five different experiments related to matter. Students did experiments with oobleck to demonstrate the states of matter. Another experiment demonstrated the chemical change when a penny is dipped in a vinegar and salt solution. Students made connections relating the Statue of Liberty’s copper material to the copper in a penny. Pictured, from right, are Raul Andrews, Mea Quinones, and Miguel Sanchez.

Matter Matters at Mariposa Elementary School!

Fourth grade students in Ms. Mellion’s class at Mariposa Elementary showed that matter matters! They were given an opportunity in science to show the three states of matter as well as describe their particles. Students used shoe boxes to display and create their projects. Students also presented their projects to the class for everyone to enjoy. Below are just some of the amazing examples the students created.

Mathematical Sharks

Mrs. Quiles‘ third-grade students at SLWK8 explored mathematical concepts through hands-on manipulatives. This interactive approach helps them grasp abstract ideas and strengthens their problem-solving skills, making learning both effective and enjoyable!

Mathematical Sharks

SLWK8 third graders in Ms. Pepe’s class worked on multi-digit addition with regrouping. They did an amazing scoot around the room, working with partners to answer the questions. Way to scoot, Sharks!

Mathematical Breakfast at SLWK8

Second grade students in Mrs. Barthell’s class started their day with a nutritious and mathematical breakfast of champions! Students used their favorite cereals to make arrays. They completed the arrays based off of repeated addition and multiplication equations.

Math Matters!

Fairlawn Elementary and Chester A. Moore Elementary fifth-grade teachers and admin are putting their heads together to create effective math instruction for our students!

Math Masters Month Boosts EOC Readiness at Treasure Coast High School

Treasure Coast High School students recently took part in Math Masters Month, an engaging initiative designed to build confidence and strengthen skills ahead of the Algebra and Geometry End of Course exams. Throughout the month, students were encouraged to challenge themselves by working through EOC-style math questions that reflect the rigor and format they will see on test day. This hands-on practice helped students focus on problem-solving strategies while reinforcing key concepts from their coursework. To add excitement and motivation, students who attempted the math problems earned a chance to make a putt for a prize. The activity created an … Read More

Math Manipulative Practice at CAST

Kindergarteners at CAST are learning the correct way to use their math manipulatives. They read stories about the do’s and don’ts of manipulatives such as teddy bear counters, snap cubes, and dice! They practice how to use them, so they are successful when it is time for math!

Math is sweet at Frances K. Sweet

Students in Melanie Francisco’s kindergarten class at Frances K. Sweet Elementary School enjoyed sorting and graphing during a recent math lesson. Pictured, Carmela Bustamante, left, and Jaden Jones had fun sorting, counting, and graphing a popular candy. The whole class was surprised to see that orange and blue occurred the most, and green occurred less.

Math is “Snow” Much Fun!

Oak Hammock K-8, 7th grade math students in the Raptors pod put a Florida spin on the new meaning to melting in the snow.  Students were engaged and challenged by their math teacher Mr. Ortiz, to take a different approach to solve for the circumference of a circle given the radius or diameter.  Building on their prior knowledge and skills, students made sense of the problems based upon real world application and persevered to solve them. Using appropriate mathematical tools strategically, the students gathered their data and applied the circumference formulas to find the circumference of each circle. Students collaborated to … Read More

Math is Larger Than Life at Weatherbee Elementary!

Students in Ms. Squire’s third grade class add multiples of 5 to a large interactive multiplication chart. This display is placed for all students to see daily in the main hallway. Teachers and staff ask students math facts as they pass by the chart.

Math in Action with Ms. Pepe’s 3rd-Grade Class at St. Lucie West K-8

In St. Lucie West K-8 math world, Ms. Pepe’s 3rd-grade sharks put their area and perimeter skills to the test by designing blueprints for their very own haunted houses! Students were ecstatic to start! Using rectangles and squares for each room, students calculated the area and perimeter on their recording sheets to bring their spooky (or not-so-spooky!) homes to life. Our Sharks also had the option to design their house however they wanted. The focus was all on the math fun and putting their artistic skills to use. This activity brought mathematics and creativity to life. They thoroughly enjoyed it! … Read More
