SLPS Medici Project held its first “Rehearsal Clinic” to help prepare students and directors for their upcoming Music Performance Assessments. Westwood Band & Eurhythmics students performed at CAST as students arrived on campus. This collaboration encourages students to utilize Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind, as several students graduated from CAST. The connection between MSAP schools also focuses on one of the MSAP Pillars – family and community partnerships.
Mariposa Elementary music students have been participating in creative musical activities and competitive games that help promote music literacy. For the month of November, students have been focused on developing their rhythm skills. From keeping a steady beat in kindergarten to freestyling over rap beats in fifth grade, students are mastering how sound works together with time to create music. Mr. Evans, Mariposa’s new music teacher, incorporates a fall theme in each lesson to increase student engagement and enjoyment. The Bluebird Educational Productions (BEP) organization which supports music education and appreciation in St. Lucie Public Schools recently received an anonymous donation from a local patron so that a deserving student could have a instrument of their own to pursue their love of music and perform in their school’s band and music programs. Cole Maxwell of Lincoln Park Academy was selected to receive a new alto saxophone courtesy of the donation. Chorus and band students from across the school district performed in spectacular fashion for a full house at the Fenn Center in Fort Pierce. As part of the annual Music In Our Schools celebration, students are specially selected from among St. Lucie Public Schools’ middle and high school band and chorus programs. The composite band or chorus group is then lead by a visiting clinician. Students rehearse for weeks to sing and play at top level with their peers. First grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently performed a multicultural holiday event for families. The students sang songs from different countries, such as Jingle Bells and Feliz Navidad which were led by music director Christine Hill. After the performance, the families were able to sample foods from many different countries and enjoy the company of families and friends. It was a great learning experience for all!
In Mrs. Eibl’s 2nd-grade class at Morningside Elementary, a group of young authors gathered to share the fruits of their creativity. Each student took turns reading their original stories aloud, capturing the attention and imagination of their peers. Morningside Elementary School students are charged for their trip to Washington, D.C. as the Florida Elementary School of the Year for Energy Achievement. The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project selected Morningside Elementary as the Florida Elementary School of the Year and National Elementary School Runner-up. NEED encourages and rewards student leadership and innovation by sponsoring a Youth Awards Program for Energy Achievement. At Morningside Elementary, during music class, students in 3rd and 4th grade put their dynamics knowledge to the test! Students brought their “A-Game” to compete in a friendly game of trivia to help review different dynamics that are used in music.
What an amazing hands-on experience for five Morningside Elementary fifth-grade students! Each class sent one student to collaborate with a scientist at IRSC. The day commenced with an introduction to a robotic dog performing tricks, followed by a fascinating demonstration on how exhaled carbon dioxide increases water acidity. Throughout the rotations, students held real dinosaur fossils, extracted DNA from strawberries, explored robotics, and enjoyed a cosmic presentation in the planetarium. Students at MSE enthusiastically participated in the exciting project of writing and illustrating their own books. Each student showcased their creativity and storytelling skills, transforming ideas into unique stories accompanied by colorful illustrations. To recognize outstanding work, one student from each grade was selected as the grade-level winner by a panel of judges using a detailed rubric. These talented students demonstrated exceptional effort, imagination, and artistic talent.
