St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) announced that 22 schools of distinction are recognized as Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) Model Schools – an increase of seven from last years’ pool of honorees. PBIS Model Schools

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) Model Schools were announced at this evening’s Board Meeting. Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards were provided to 13 schools in the District. (Throughout the entire state, there are only 150 model schools. St. Lucie is proud to celebrate 13 of these schools.) The model schools have met specific criteria as established through the University of South Florida’s PBIS project and have reported innovative, creative and functional ways of supporting PBIS/MTSS in their respective schools.

PBIS Mariposa Butterfly Bucks Rock!

At Mariposa Elementary, Butterfly Bucks are used when students are caught doing positive behaviors. When a teacher or administrator catches a student following one of the I CAN expectations, they hand them a butterfly buck and acknowledge the specific behavior the students were caught doing. The students then place them in their butterfly bank similar to the one pictured and save them to spend on special PBIS events or to buy a special item from the PBIS store. PBIS is Poppin’ at CAST!

Creative Arts Academy students used their CAST cash to participate in their first PBIS event. Students enjoyed outdoor games, popcorn, and spinning the Wheel of Fortune for prizes!

PBIS Fun Friday Kahoot at CAST

Middle school students at CAST look forward to their weekly community-building activity with their teachers and administrators, Fun Friday Kahoot! After a week of hard work in their distance learning classes, students face off against their peers and their favorite teachers each Friday to earn the title of Kahoot champion. Questions cover a wide variety of academic areas, as well as some fun pop culture trivia and our Leader in Me curriculum. A special grand prize is dropped off at the weekly winner’s doorstep.

PBIS Event at Floresta Elementary

The whole school participated in a PBIS event for making great choices at a PBIS celebration on February 26th. The students all danced and sang to their favorite songs and had a great time. These students followed the S.W.I.M. expectations at Floresta. Show respect, Work to keep our school clean and safe, Illustrate responsibility, and Maintain a positive attitude! Go Dolphins!

PBIS Dodgeball Game at FPWA

Panthers enjoyed a great staff vs. student dodgeball game as a PBIS incentive for this quarter! It was an exciting game and we are so proud of our students for meeting their goals!

PBIS Dance at MSE

   Students in K-5 with no referrals for the second nine weeks danced and enjoyed each other’s company at the second annual PBIS in-school dance.

PBIS Chance Opportunity Event at Mariposa Elementary

Wow! What a lucky CHANCE it was to win an awesome prize from our PBIS CHANCE Opportunity Drawing Event at Mariposa Elementary. For only three Butterfly Bucks, students had the opportunity to win one of our fantastic prizes. PBIS Bus Driver Luncheon

Allapattah Flats hosted its annual PBIS BUS DRIVER LUNCHEON on Friday, September 29, 2017. APFK8 served their drivers with great enthusiasm and appreciation for all that they do every day to keep their Gators safe! Fort Pierce Central High School’s September PBIS activity turned an ordinary lunch period into a high-energy celebration of fun, laughter, and friendly competition! Students gathered in the cafeteria to take part in a series of “Minute to Win It” games—quick, quirky challenges designed to test skill, coordination, and creativity in just 60 seconds. PBIS Brag Bracelet Ceremony at Mariposa Elementary

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Mariposa Elementary are celebrated at monthly PBIS Brag Bracelet ceremonies for adhering to the school I CAN expectations, Act Responsible, Be Respectful, Create Safety, and Doing Their Best. They each receive a bracelet stating their accomplishment as well as a delicious chocolate chip cookie and juice! PBIS Award – Bronze Level Award

We congratulate Mariposa Elementary, Morningside Elementary, Oak Hammock K – 8, Palm Pointe Educational Research School, and Village Green Environmental Studies School for receiving Bronze Level status! The purpose of the Florida’s Positive Behavior Support (FLPBS) Project is to identify schools that exemplify best practices in the implementation of positive behavior support systems. Patriot Day Tribute at Treasure Coast High School

On Thursday, September 11, Treasure Coast High School’s Air Force JROTC cadets honored the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and paid tribute to the heroes who emerged in the face of tragedy. As part of St. Lucie Public Schools, we pause to reflect on the courage, unity, and resilience that define this day. Patience at the Parkway Spelling Bee

Parkway students had to have ‘patience’ as they participated in the spelling bee Friday, May 9th. Third place was won by Olivia Hagen , 2nd place by Fabian Liriano, and the champion- spelling the word ‘patience’- was Elexus McMillan.

Pathways to Becoming a Physician or Scientist

The Pathways to Becoming a Physician or Scientist event was held at Lincoln Park Academy and live-streamed for students at the other high schools. Students from high school CTE and science classes from all over St. Lucie Public Schools participated as either live or as virtual audience members for the event.  Additionally, middle school students within the Allied Health program at LPA also joined. Pastries for Parents at Mariposa Elementary Book Fair

Mariposa Elementary held its “Pastries for Parents”. Families came and enjoyed breakfast while shopping at our Book Fair. Shown in the picture is John Wright, Christopher Wright, Jackson Wright and Geneva Wright. They were some of the early birds at the event. Also during the book fair, we held an event which included help for volunteers to complete their online applications. There was an author presentation and shopping at the Book Fair. Author, Mrs. Janet Balletta, presented her book, ‘The Legend of the Colombian Mermaid.’ Parents and students enjoyed sweet treats while they shopped for their favorite books.
