PSLH Culinary Visits Sunshine Kitchen

Port St. Lucie High Culinary Program virtually visited the Sunshine Kitchen in Fort Pierce. Chef Roland Foerster and his culinary students virtually visited the Sunshine Kitchen hosted by Gina McCants, Sunshine Kitchen Manager and Tcerda Research Park Manager. The students learned about activities at the Sunshine Kitchen and watched a food demonstration by Chef Leslie Moyers and his team.

PSL Warriors Bring Lacrosse to Life at Southport Middle School

This past week, students had an exciting opportunity to learn from the Port Saint Lucie Warriors Lacrosse Club! On Monday, the team introduced basic skills such as passing, shooting, and scooping, along with key techniques to get started. By Wednesday, students were putting those skills into action with fun games while learning the rules of lacrosse. The Warriors also gave students a closer look at the equipment explaining the different positions on the field, the types of sticks used, and the differences between men’s and women’s lacrosse sticks. PSL Rotary Club Partners with Palm Pointe

Nancy Oldham & Larry Breault, members of the Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club, brought copies of the US Constitution for 7th Grade Civic students. Mrs. Lulkin and Mrs. Wright received them along with Mrs. Newsome. We are so appreciative, and the teachers are excited to share these with the students especially as they have been learning about the constitution this year.

PSL Moose Lodge Donates to PKY

Parkway was the recipient of $600 to support the purchase of a handicap-accessible swing for our playground. This donation was generously provided by members of the Port St. Lucie Moose Lodge.  

PSL Mayor Visits Palm Pointe

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s third grade students had a special visit from Port Saint Lucie’s Mayor, Greg Oravec.  Mayor Oravec talked to the students about what government means and how the different levels interact with each other.  He supported their learning by having discussions regarding the different branches of government along with how citizens can make a difference.

PSL Jaguar Battalion Field Day

Jaguar Battalion Field Day   Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted their own field day on May 6, 2017. The JROTC unit uses field day as a way to reward the cadets for their hard work and achievements, as well as, to use the teamwork and leadership skills they learned in the program. Activities consist of ultimate Jag – a form of no tackle football, soccer, kickball, dodge ball, Tug O’ War and pedal car races. The pedal car race was our new event this year. PSL High Tech Design Races

Students in Port St Lucie High’s Technical Design Program 3D printed race cars! Students designed their car using AutoCAD, troubleshot to make adjustments, then printed using their classroom 3D printers. They will then race their cars later this semester! Look for more designs to come. Technical Design is a pre-apprenticeship at Port St Lucie High School.

PSL Army JROTC Attacks Florida Institute of Technology Challenge Obstacle Course

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, cadets from the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion joined four other high school Battalions at Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in Fellsmere, Florida. The cadets negotiated through various obstacles that tested their skill, strength, and ability to overcome hardships. Cadets participated in a hands-on experiences including Marine and Aerial Assault obstacle courses. Each consisted of vigorous activities testing their balance and fear of heights.  Some of these elements included Low Belly Over, Belly Crawl, High Step Over, and Confidence Climb. Properties of Matter at White City Elementary

Grade 5 students of White City Elementary are learning about the states of matter.  Mr. Lewis facilitated learning as the students determined if matter can be more than one state at a time.  The students discussed properties of matter, made oobleck and slime, and they recorded their observation.  

Project Unify

On your marks, get set, go! Over 50 students participated in Project Unify, a Special Olympics collaborative between four high schools in the St. Lucie Public Schools District. Students are practicing for a Unified Area Meet in Clermont on May 6th, a State Level competition involving IMG Academy. Project Unify supports the Special Olympics on the high school level with a mix of alternate-abled athletes and their able-partners. This year, competition is limited to track and field, but coordinators hope that with the help of the FHSAA, it will grow to all sport areas. Indian River State College is launching a new program, Project STAGE, designed with the goal of supporting students with intellectual disabilities (ID) and their families while students pursue education and gainful employment in their chosen occupation. Project STAGE, short for students transitioning to academics and gainful employment, is now accepting applications for students. Students with ID often have many resources available to them while enrolled in the K-12 system but few resources when they enter into the postsecondary environment. St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) need look no further.  District officials found what they were looking for in Project SEARCH – a supportive and collaborative community-based program providing students with disabilities real world work experiences in high-turnover, entry-level positions with an end goal of securing employment after a year-long internship.       Centennial High School launches Project Eagle.  Every Athlete Giving Leading Excelling.  Project Eagle is a program designed for student athletes to represent Centennial by volunteering in the community.  There will be extensive volunteer opportunities throughout the year and each student athlete is encouraged to volunteer for at least 20 hours.  It a way for our student eagles to give back to our community and make a difference.
