The September COLT of the month was held on the afternoon of September 17th in the Gaines Academy audeteria. The program started with a welcome message from Principal Wilke. Then, the SGA guidance staff led both parents and students in a fun activity that explained the month’s character trait. After the activity, the giving of the certificates ceremony began. Audience members were thrilled to hear why their child had been chosen by their teacher to represent their class in the power-up trait of RESPONSIBILITY!
We are excited to celebrate the success of our CAST Music students! 3rd through 5th-grade music students and 6th-grade percussionists had an outstanding winter performance. Students performed using Orff xylophones, steel drums, Brazilian Samba drums, ukuleles, and more! Congratulations performers!
This lab provided Lincoln Park students with a first-hand experience of how forensic scientists use DNA to connect suspects to crimes. The students were able to make a connection to the material on a deeper level. Next week the students will make their weekly venture to Harbor Branch for a mark & recapture field lab.
The Senior Barbecue at SLW Centennial was a resounding success. The barbecue brought together the graduating class of 2025 for a day of fun, food, and festivities. The event featured many exciting activities, including bounce houses, games, and other activities that brought out the inner child in every senior. Additionally, these upper classmen enjoyed great barbecued food and treats. The atmosphere was energetic. The students talked, laughed, and danced to the beats of lively music. Fort Pierce Westwood Academy Seniors enjoyed a spectacular pep rally and field day! Tug of war, an obstacle course, and the hula hoop shuffle were just a few of the fun activities planned! The day was spent celebrating the amazing class of 2023!!
Graduating senior alumni were invited to walk Fairlawn’s halls in their caps and gowns. Fairlawn’s current students and staff congratulated them as they walked. A small reception was held in their honor where the seniors enjoyed seeing their elementary classmates and their 5th grade pictures on display! We are so proud of each of them and wish them much success in their futures.
A BIG Shout Out goes to the Cadets from the Fort Pierce Westwood Army JROTC Program for volunteering their time to support an incredibly worthwhile cause (while also starting off the Thanksgiving Holiday in a great way). The Cadets worked with the Treasure Coast Blue Star Mothers Organization, packing close to (200) Care Packages for US Military service members who are deployed all around the world. CAST elementary students in Ms. Swabon’s on campus and MySchool virtual visual arts classes started their school year by drawing a self-portrait through the lens of a “selfie.” The young artists were given the option to use a template provided to them or to trace a cell phone to create an image of how they see themselves. This first project is always a great starting point for both the artist and the teacher to open conversation about the artistic experience.

St. Lucie Public Schools is looking for residents to serve on the Referendum Citizens Advisory Committee. The Committee’s sole duty will be to provide oversight to ensure that the referendum funds are used for the purposes described in the referendum ballot language. Ms. Quinn’s K-2 InD ESE class is using Secret Santa’s Elf Delivery Service as an opportunity to work on their communication and social skills. Each day the Oak Hammock student elves deliver gifts to teachers and take the opportunity to work on social skills. Students are learning the importance of knocking before entering a room, looking in the direction of the person they are speaking to, introducing themselves and being polite and respectful. The student elves are bringing such joy to all those they encounter along the way.

The St. Lucie Education Foundation, Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County, and The Fort Pierce Rotary Club visited Lawnwood Elementary and provided a dictionary for every second-grade student. Our students will benefit from this generous donation of brand-new student dictionaries and free passes to the Manatee Center. We appreciate the commitment of these local agencies for enhancing our students’ learning in such a unique way. Students in Eric Redding’s second grade at Allapattah Flats K8 class made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as a culminating activity for their Expository Writing Unit. This activity focused on using specific details and descriptions in writing. Students were asked to list the steps to make the sandwich, and then were invited up to try it! The students learned that they might not have included all of the steps when making the sandwich, as it didn’t quite work out as planned.
