Save The Chimps is a chimpanzee sanctuary located in Fort Pierce, Florida. At Save the Chimps there was need for enrichment activities to keep the chimps stimulated. In Ms. Schutt’s 21st CLCC class students piloted the Save The Chimps to learn about the chimpanzees. “Save the Chimps” project was offered to 3rd and 4th grade students at Samuel Gaines Academy in order to improve math, reading, writing and science skills. The after school program consists of project based learning incorporating academics and extracurricular/ personal enrichment activities. Students created chimpanatas as enrichment activities to help the chimps celebrate “Chimpo De Mayo.”

​TCHS International Business students presented in a Shark Tank adult presentation format in between adult presenters seeking millions of dollars!  Students presented their business ideas or concepts and were questioned. The opportunity was open to all SLC students after extensive after school work and winning the semi finals.  Those who made it to the finals presented at the Business Opportunity Showcase on April 23, and all 9 finalists were TCHS International Business Students. Northport VPK-8 School Media Specialist, Lynne Gruszka and eighth grade student, Trey Bingham proudly accept the donation of three books documenting the legacies of a lengthy list of Medal of Honor recipients in our American History. The bestowing of the books, “Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty” coincides with the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Medal of Honor by an act of Congress, signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln back in 1861 during the Civil War. Ft. Pierce Central High School may have accomplished a first in the school’s history by receiving straight superiors on their MPA (Music Performance Assessment) Band Performance this afternoon. Congratulations!

Everyone loves a good book. Six cadets from the Jaguar Battalion visited Bayshore Elementary to read to first grade classes. Each cadet was assigned to a class room. After finishing the book, the cadets asked the kids questions about the book. All of the cadets, Ashlee Seipel, Zachary St.John, Robert Hopkins, Jamie Triplett, Jaffrey Murankus and Allison Miakisz, said it was a great opportunity to read to the class and see the children smile.

Bayshore Elementary students  in the National Elementary Honor Society (N.E.H.S) clean up their school. For part of the N.E.H.S. community service project, students in fourth and fifth grade at Bayshore Elementary developed and implemented a plan to clean up their school. Bayshore Elementary School’s first grade classes received a visit from Port St. Lucie High School’s JROTC cadets.  The cadets took time to share information about JROTC and their uniforms, and then spent time reading to students.  Pictured is Port St. Lucie High School JROTC cadet Jamie Tripplett reading to Debbie Gonzalez’s first grade students.

Y.A.L.E. is a 9th grade organization created to promote academic success, leadership, philanthropy, and fellowship amongst students in Saint Lucie West Centennial High School’s Freshman Academy.  Freshmen participation in school activities and events is a vital component of maintaining school pride and culture.  Y.A.L.E. provides numerous paths to involvement for students who might not already participate in athletics, band, chorus, drama and other clubs.  At its core, Y.A.L.E. is an academic organization that supports student success:  85% of members have a GPA over a 2.5, and 40% are on honor roll.  Membership in Y.A.L.E. is highly inclusive, and is representative … Read More

Morningside and the Elks club send Odyssey of the Mind teams to state competition where our team, Experiencing Technical Difficulty placed eighth out of 19 teams.  Our team, Wacky weather represented Morningside in the primary category.    

Eight lucky St. Lucie West Centennial HOSA students started their Spring break a little early attending the 2015 HOSA Spring Leadership Conference March 26-29, 2015 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. The students participated in competitions that enhance their high school education while improving self-confidence and building professionalism. There are over 55 competitions which include Medical Innovation, Biomedical Debate, Sports Medicine, Clinical Nursing, Barbara James Service Award, National Service Project, and Job Seeking Skills.  Students also volunteered their time to assist in conference headquarters, judging middle school events, and counting pennies for HOSA’s National Service Project-Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Senior Karina Sotolongo anxiously awaits the opening of the IRSC Writing Contest Awards ceremony. The contest has competitors from more than twenty area high schools, and there are three places for each of the four high school grades. Karina won third place as a sophomore, first as a junior, and first as a senior. As a three time winner, she received a plaque and a full scholarship to IRSC.

Jaci Caine serves on the Florida Youth Commission, an advisory body to the Governor’s Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. As a member, she participated  in the Children’s Week activities in Tallahassee, FL, April 10th- 14th.  Congratulations Jaci on a job well done.

Anastasia Beckford received the Wellesley Book Award honoring a female student in the junior class whose academic record and character are exceptional and who has also made significant personal contributions to her school and community.

Morningside fifth graders participated in a fun-filled, yet educational pep rally under the direction of Deb Hitsman, our guidance counselor.  They ran relays, tried to keep that hula hoop going, and dug in sand to find answers to questions about Math.    

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. On Friday, April 10, the Rivers Edge PTO hosted a Family Movie Night outside in the PE area of the school. Free to all who attended, everyone received a popcorn and a drink to enjoy while watching Monsters University. Kona Ice was on hand as well as other treats that could be purchased by the parents and students. PTO provided bug repellent and the weather cooperated making the night a perfect family time!
