Palm Pointe’s Environmental Club participated in the “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon” program on October 4th along with approximately 1,800 students and teachers from over 30 schools, with the help of over 30 natural resource expert organizations, engaged in hands-on science exploration at over 32 sampling sites along the Indian River Lagoon. Dan McCarty Middle School is stepping up their civics game this year! The local middle school was proud to welcome County Clerk Joseph Smith into the Eagles family for a visit to all seventh graders. It’s a state requirement for seventh graders to have a civic education, and Dan McCarty has found innovative ways of teaching the subject. The visit from Clerk Joseph Smith was an opportunity for students to communicate with an elected official about public policy ideas and interact with a public servant who was also once a student in St Lucie County. Fourth grade students in Ms. Mellion’s class at Mariposa Elementary showed that matter matters! They were given an opportunity in science to show the three states of matter as well as describe their particles. Students used shoe boxes to display and create their projects. Students also presented their projects to the class for everyone to enjoy. Below are just some of the amazing examples the students created.

Students in Mr. Fess’ 8th grade Northstars STEM class are creating kites as part of their Flight & Space course. In addition to studying the history and predicted future of flight travel, students are learning the forces acting on flying objects and how aerodynamics can help improve the efficiency of flying objects.

First graders at Northport are learning all about matter. Thank you to Mrs. Esther Ruppel, one of our Big Brothers Big Sisters tutors, for providing the root beer floats for students to observe and enjoy. Science is so much fun!

Northport Safety Patrol Pancake Breakfast rocked at Applebee’s Sunday morning. The patrols worked hard serving family and friends to earn money for their end-of-year trip! They did an amazing job and had fun too! Thank you to everyone who came out or donated! ❤

At Northport, kindness is contagious! We celebrated “Be A Buddy Week” in a few different ways. At Northport, one of our main objectives is to make sure that children and families know how important school attendance is to achieving our educational goals. On Saturday, September 29, 2018, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion Color Guard presented the nation’s colors at the 7th annual Wounded Warrior Surf Day. Leading the parade along with St. Lucie County Fire Rescue Bag Pipes and Drums, the Color Guard proudly marched wounded warriors and their families to the beach. PSLHS’s Color Guard included Cadet Captain Brianna Harris as National Flag Bearer, Cadet Sergeant First Class Lawrence Moleon-Mathews as the State Flag Bearer, Cadet Second Lieutenant Justin Locklar, and Cadet Sergeant Alexis Morris as Guards. The Key Club, Student Government, and Senior Class Officers kicked off the “START with Hello” initiative to address social isolation. Their goal is to help create a school where everyone feels connected and included. Students wore identifying t-shirts and gave bracelets to those with whom they interacted. On Saturday September 29, 2018, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion’s Raider Team attended their first Raider Meet of the season at Atlantic Coast High School. Our mixed team of six males and four females came in second place under the host school Atlantic Community High School. The Raider Event consisted of: a rope bridge construction, 500 push-ups, 500 sit-ups, 100 pull-ups, a mile run while carrying a stretcher with a stimulated patient, a half mile kettlebell carry, and a tractor trailer tire flip weighing in at over 400 lbs. Students are having a fabulous time enjoying cookies and hot chocolate at their book club.  Over 60 students, ranging from grades 5-8, are currently participating in a book club reading, The House With a Clock in It’s Walls, by John Bellairs.  Students meet in the mornings with Media Specialist Amy Fazzalaro to read and discuss the book.  After completing the book, everyone will meet at the movie theater to view the film.  It is exciting to see our students thrilled about reading.    

On October 1st, in observance of National Bullying Prevention Month, students and staff at Southern Oaks Middle School “Stomp Out” bullying by uniting on the SOMS football field to create a school-wide message: NO BULLYING!      

During the first year of the Port Saint Lucie High School’s Biomedical Program taught by Ms. Irene Ruiz, students are introduced to “The Case of Anna Garcia.” Students spend the year solving the case of this fictitious character, reading through autopsy reports, medical records, and learning about her medical conditions. On Tuesday, 9.18.2018, Bridget Coghlan, from St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit, came to speak to the students about crime scene investigating, fingerprinting, and analyzing blood spatters at the scene. Northport dads Rock! This year we had an unprecedented number of dads join for a light breakfast and a special time to fellowship with other children and their dads. It was a wonderful event that was a super success. Dads pledged to support their children and their children’s teachers. They also promised to stay informed about their children’s behavioral and academic progress and encourage their children every day. WE LOVE OUR DADS @NP.

What a testament to hard work and dedication! Being a bus driver is a commitment to the students, families and community that you will carry our most prized possessions, our children, from home to school safely. We thank you for your service.
