The Oxbow Eco-Center will offer its premier Art of Puppetry Camp this summer for children ages 8 to 12, running July 29 through Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will explore the many kinds of puppets with the help of professional puppeteers from around the state. Both IBEX Puppetry and Katie Adams’ Make Believe Theater will offer workshops on storytelling, the history of puppetry and puppet-making. Campers will build a variety of puppets, including giant dragonfly hand puppets, shadow puppets with moveable parts and sandhill crane marionettes. Grace Way Village is one of many non-profits looking forward to supporting teachers in their efforts to care for our community’s children! There are many non-profit organizations in the area that can help with the needs of your students.

This year’s SLPS Class of 2019 is nearly 3,000 strong, and there is a lot to be proud of. Students earned scholarships totaling $25,801,907, 186 students earned their AA Degrees while in high school, and the District assigned 75 “A Promise Is A Promise” contracts to students planning to seek careers as educators.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL — Growth continues in St. Lucie Public Schools according to the Florida Department of Education’s release of Grade 3 ELA Scores.  The District saw a four-percentage point increase over last year’s benchmark; furthermore, 62% of the County’s traditional schools increased in the number of students who scored at proficiency levels (Levels 3, 4, and 5). Bayshore Elementary showed the greatest gain in the District over last year with a 21% gain. Other schools with large increases include Floresta Elementary with a 16% increase; Samuel S. St. Lucie Public Schools Child Nutrition Services team provides numerous programs for our children and our community.  The District, designated as a Healthy Schools District, provides all students with the opportunity to receive a well-balanced breakfast and lunch during their regular school day, and as summer months approach, there are opportunities for students to partake in breakfast and lunch as well during these vacation months.  Watch this month’s segment of Eye on St. Lucie to learn about what is available.  

St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) Kindergarten open enrollment is scheduled to re-open with 24/7 online access.  The registration window will begin on May 20, 2019 and remain open until June 21, 2019.  Students entering kindergarten must be five years on or before September 1, 2019.   According to SLPS Student Assignment Director Michelle Jerger, “We understand that selecting a school for a child is a very important decision. Earlier this year, St. Lucie Public Schools hosted the local version of the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge.  Here, local high school teams competed for top honors and individual team members vied for a seat on the prestigious Team St. Lucie – an elite six-member team representing St. Lucie Public Schools at the 34th Annual Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. This state competition took place in April at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn where the St. Lucie Team advanced to the Division 2 Finals and ended up finishing 5th in the state!
