Northport Celebrates First Student of the Month!

Northport is so thrilled to host parents and grandparents at the very first Student of the Month. The Northport community celebrated students who for demonstrating good citizenship, being a good friend, stepping up for a friend in need, and for being an all-around good kid. The school loves to celebrate our children and take every opportunity to invite families into the school as partners in education.

Northport Constitution Week Study Gives Power to the People!

Constitution Week is officially declared this year as September 17-23, 2018, and schools all across America will celebrate the nation’s Constitution. Northport is proud to educate our students about our Constitution. Each morning this week, a different student voice will recite the Preamble to the Constitution on the public announcements. Community partners and neighbors, Debra Magrann and Pauline Pavlick, visited the Northport Media Center to educate our students about the Constitution. Students learned that Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, James Madison and 31 other delegates met at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The date was September 17, 1787. Northport Celebrates Grandparents Day 2018!

What a beautiful day @Northport. Grandparents came to visit and stayed for lunch. The school courtyard and cafeteria were filled with grandparents and their children enjoying food together. Rachel Ellsworth and the culinary arts students prepared a lovely taco bar and school lunch was also available. Every nook and cranny was filled with love, care and enjoyment of family! The Northport community was filled to the brim with joy and love today! Thanks to our grandparents for making Northport a pleasure to treasure. “Northport September 11, 2001 Children’s Memorial Library”

The Northport Media Center is officially named “The Northport K-8 School Children’s Memorial Library” in honor and remembrance of the eight children who perished on September 11, 2001. The children from United Flight 175 were Christine Hanson, age 2, David Brandhorst, age 3, and Juliana McCourt, age 4. The children from American Flight 77 were Dana Falkenberg, age 3, Zoe Falkenberg, age 8, Rodney Dickens, age 11, Bernard Curtis Brown, age 11 and Asia Cottom, age 11. Northport Eighth Graders Move On Up to High School!

What a wonderful evening at Northport! Our 8th graders are leaving the nest and moving on to high school. They have done the work, achieved success and are moving on to the next chapter of their lives. The evening began with the SLW Centennial JROTC unit posting the colors in a spectacular showcase. This year has been a year of achievement and success at Northport. The accomplishments of our students have been stunning. On the final day of school, Edie Majewski, City of Port Saint Lucie Sidewalks Projects Manager, visited the school along with the news crew from channel 20. Northport Kindergarten Graduation Priceless!

Wonderful job to the students, teachers, support staff and parents who have encouraged, prodded and demonstrated kindergartners into a successful end of their first year of school. Northport Celebrates Incoming Sixth Graders With Style!

Northport fifth grade graduation was a first-rate event! Just when you think you can’t celebrate one more thing, those fifth graders go and make the tears come to your eyes. The NP gymnasium was packed with parents, grandparents and families that truly care about the success and achievement of their children. Students were honored for perfect attendance and for highest achievement in resource, math, reading and science. Students then performed a musical number in unison facing their parents. Just when we think our students couldn’t make us any prouder, our writers do their “Run for the Roses!” This morning, Kolbee Cicio, Allyson Sheets, Mercella Stephens, Sydnee Coryn, Emmanuel Serpas Funes, Emmalyne Lewiston and Ariana Aponte Quiles proved that Northport students love writing and they are very good at their craft. Northport Collaborates with Local Churches to Promote “Faith In Literacy!”

What a momentous week at Northport! This weeked capped off the collaboration between First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie, First Baptist Church of Port St. Lucie and Northport K-8 School to provide an exceptional summer reading program for every child at the school appropriately themed, “Faith In Literacy!” The two churches collected picture books, chapter books, fiction and non fiction books at every service for the last few months. Three thousand summer reading books were collected for the children of Northport. Northport Student Wins State Writing Contest!

Northport is pleased to announce that fifth grade student, Paris Martinez from Mrs. Tredor’s class has won not only the District 9 Florida Retired Educators Association essay contest, but also the state of Florida award. At the state level, Paris will receive a special plaque and $150 cash award. Northport Medical Detectives Excel

Seventh and eighth grade students in Northstars STEM class are working on finishing their PLTW Medical Detectives unit ending in a “murder mystery.” Students have calculated time of death, dusted for prints, analyzed hair samples, and compared shoe-print patterns among other things to determine which suspects they would question. Today students interrogated their suspects. Next, students will act as lawyers, judge and jury to determine the guilt of one of the fictitious suspects. Army Ranger Dedicated Jump #53 to Northport Children!

Second Lieutenant, Army Ranger, Xiovani Guanill dedicated his 53rd parachute jump to NPK* students. Xiovani attended school at Northport and graduated from our Landsharks team. He was just a regular funny kid with a sarcastic and witty sense of humor. Xiovani Guanill wanted in some way to make his parents proud because he grew up with his mom in a wheelchair. He floated around a little then joined the United States Army. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He even visited Northport children one time and his helmet still had Iraqi sand in it. Northport is a very lucky school, and our children are well thought of throughout our community. One of our community partners, First Baptist Church of Port Saint Lucie or 1 PSL Church, collaborated with another Northport community partner, First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie, to bring a fabulous summer reading program to our students.
