We are truly blessed at Northport. Pastor Brian, Deacon Rad, and others from our First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie community partners gave a day of service to our school. We are beautiful and wondrously freshly painted and cleaned. ❤ Northport appreciates all who supported the effort!

Northport Students Release Their Inner Author!

Mrs. Lawrence’s first grade class proudly brought their completed Young Author books to the media center.  Great job for innovative and exciting work and teaching the joy of writing!❤ Young Authors is a school-wide program at Northport. Common language and joyful writing brings the community together to help children release their inner writer.

SLC Public Library Makes House Call

Many thanks to the St. Lucie County Public Library for visiting Northport second graders. Jayme Kostandinu, children’s program specialist, and Brittany Ellis, program associate, brought news about the public library’s summer reading program themed “A Universe of Stories!” Students received applications for public library cards and listened to interactive stories to spur their reading initiative. The program runs from June 1 through August 3. Parents, take your children to the public library and check out their many programs and books.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Taste of St. Lucie

Northport culinary students serve their tasty creation at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Taste of St. Lucie. A fun time was had by all as students enjoyed serving the community and working with educational partners. Northport Wins Florida Retired Educators Essay Contest!

Congratulations to Margeaux McKinney for her District 9 overall first place win for the Florida Retired Educators Association annual 5th grade essay contest. She was recognized at the FREA luncheon today at the Heathcote Botanical Gardens and awarded writing items to inspire her continued interest in writing. This is the third consecutive year that a Northport Rising Star student has taken first place! Mrs. Tredor was also recognized for this achievement.

STEM Studies

The future is bright! Students in Mr. Fess’ Northstars STEM classes created laser security systems today as part of their Laser and Photonics unit. Students are learning about reflection, refraction and the use of lasers in fiberoptic cable as well as their application in multiple career fields.

Honor Roll Season Northport K-8

Northport community is so proud of our sixth grade Sharks and our seventh grade Stingrays who earned the Principal’s Honor Roll, A Honor Roll, B Honor Roll, and Perfect Attendance. The third nine weeks is always the most difficult, and these students worked hard to achieve. We congratulate all teachers, students and parents for working as a team and ensuring success and forward progress. Great job everyone!

Northport K-8 Values GiveBack2Kids Partnership

Northport K-8 GiveBack2Kids Student of the Month show citizenship, outstanding progress in awesomeness, and are all around GREAT students! We thank our partners in education, James Monds and David Gornitzky (GiveBack2Kids CEOs) who help us honor positive attitude and remarkable behavior. This is our final GB2K award for the 2018-2019 school year. All students selected this year for this award and their families will be invited to an honorary banquet in May. Northport K-8 Navigators Promote “Adopt Don’t Shop!”

Northport K-8 middle school art class students created an art project with the theme Adopt Don’t Shop in hopes of raising awareness of the adoption for cats and dogs. Students created a colorful background collage using reused paper, creating a new purpose for the paper. The collage served as a symbolic gesture for animals because those who are adopted gain a new purpose in life. Northport K-8 Culinary Arts Students Shine

Northport K-8 Culinary Arts students participated in the 2nd Annual Culinary Cook Off. Students were asked to design and produce a dessert recipe using all food commodities from our food services or cafeteria. Northport students created a cake using 51% wheat flour and low sugar standards set by the USDA. Northport K-8 Students Practice Design and Promotion

Many thanks to Northport K-8 7th grade Stingray students Dymond Wilkerson, Ariel Perry, Tyreese Morrison, and Jaivon Curate. These students showed initative and unpacked the entire book fair! They carried boxes, moved the carts, designed and organized the books, and really worked hard to make THEIR book fair great. This year’s book fair is designed by and for students at Northport K-8!

Northport K-8 Celebrates National School Library Week

April is designated as National School Library Month! Northport 9/11 Children’s Memorial Library is a tribute to the learning and achievement that occurs on a daily basis at our school. Please help us celebrate our library by giving a salute to the research, books checked in and out daily, and the many programs that happen in the media center to extend and promote knowledge and learning. Northport K-8 Participates in Relay For Life 2019

Northport K-8 participated in the 2019 Relay For Life recently held at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center this month. Northport is happy to provide community service and to receive the lessons that the students learn about cancer, care, kindness, and empathy. Northport’s team won Best in Show for the Lip Sync contest and participated in the Luminaria Walk and the Road to Recovery. We are so thankful for our entire Relay For Life team for their participation!

Steve Weagle Visits Northport K-8 for the “Wearing of the Green!”

Oh what a lucky day it was at Northport K-8 School! The Chief Meteorologist for WPTV, Channel 5, Steve Weagle visited to not only give students an engaging lesson on weather forecasting, but he also participated in the Wearing of the Green in the media center. Northport first and second graders listened intently about the use of radar to find rain and learned about how rain buckets are used to measure the amount of precipitation. Northport K-8 Drama Performs for Kindergarten Students

Northport K-8 sixth grade drama students with the assistance of several eighth graders, performed four short plays for the entire kindergarten group recently in the Northport Black Box theater. Under the direction of drama coach, Allison Barajas, students performed “The Frog Prince,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “The Princess and the Pea,” and “Cinderella.” It was a wonderful and heartwarming adventure into beginning theater appreciation. The sixth graders were professional and the kindergartners learned an appreciation for theater etiquette.

Northport Students Visit Washington, D.C.

Northport K-8 students had the amazing opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. over spring break. Almost forty students, along with teachers, Thomas McDonald, Angela Elliott, Andrew Mackenzie, and parent chaperones were overwhelmed by the profound history and primary source learning opportunity. Students visited Arlington National Cemetery, Lincoln Memorial, United States Capitol, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the White House, Smithsonian Museum of American History and so much more. Rotary Club Gifts Northport K-8 Third Graders

Many thanks to the Noon Rotary Club of Port St. Lucie for the gift of brand new dictionaries for Northport K-8 third grade students!  Angela Hayle from ACCH Insurance Agency visited the school as a representative of the club to deliver the dictionaries. Students were thrilled to learn the longest word in the dictionary and the different ways that the dictionary can be useful. Thanks to Angela and the Noon Rotary Club — you do amazing work for our community!
