Male Youth Summit

The inaugural Male Youth Summit at Performance Based Preparatory Academy was a collaboration between the Bethune-Cookman University’s Male Development Institute and the Omicron Tau (Treasure Coast) Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Male students in grades six through twelve attended this event and participated in breakout sessions covered topics such as: dressing for success, grades, mental health, and time management.    

Five Star School Award

The Five Star School Award was created by the Commissioner’s Community Involvement Council and is presented annually to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement. In order to earn Five Star School recognition, a school must show documentation that it has achieved 100 percent of the established criteria in the following categories. Business partnerships Family Involvement Volunteerism Student Community Service School Advisory Councils Schools must also earn a grade of “C” or above, or school improvement rating of “maintaining or improving” for the year of nomination. Commander’s Award for Civilian Service at FPWHS

A tremendous honor was recently bestowed on our very own Fort Pierce Westwood High School Principal Mr. Joseph Lezeau. Last week during the high school’s JROTC Awards Ceremony, an impressive number of cadets earned awards for high academic accomplishments and were recognized for their citizenship, leadership, and community service.  At the close of the ceremony, CSM Frederico Dottin presented Mr. Lezeau with the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. The Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation Founds LPA Wrestling Team

A new partnership has been formed between Lincoln Park Academy and The Concetta Viggiano Parry Foundation, a non-profit organization located in Fort Pierce, focused on philanthropy, volunteerism, and grant-making.   This foundation has graciously offered to donate $10,000 toward establishing Lincoln Park Academy’s first-ever wrestling team!  The donation will help purchase the team’s initial uniforms and equipment for the students.  In addition, these funds will support the acquisition of safety equipment and assist with the logistical support related to participation in meets and competitions.  Dr. Paul Gavoni, a member of the foundation’s board of directors, presented the check to the SLC School … Read More

Morningside Elementary Heads to World Competition Again

St. Lucie Public Schools is proud to announce that Morningside Elementary’s (MSE) Odyssey of the Mind Team won first place at the state competition and is advancing to the World Finals competition slated for May 21 – May 26 in Lansing, Michigan. Morningside’s team will convene with approximately 850 other teams for what is deemed to be the largest creative problem-solving competition. Samuel Gaines Academy Teacher Nationally Recognized

Mrs. Marsha Mimnaugh, Reading Interventionist at Samuel Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies, has been selected as an NEH Summer Scholar from a national applicant pool to attend one of 15 Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshops supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.  The Endowment is a federal agency that, each summer, supports these enrichment opportunities at colleges, universities, and cultural institutions so teachers can study with experts in humanities disciplines. Board Member Dr. Donna Mills Honored by Chamber

Dr. Donna Mills, SLPS School Board Member, was honored by the Chamber of Commerce as April’s Woman of the Month.  Dr. Mills was introduced by her daughter, United States District Court Judge Shaniek Maynard – a past recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Month Award.  This made for a unique pairing for the mother and daughter team to both hold the Chamber’s “Woman of the Month” distinction. FORT PIERCE, FL – “Student Perks: It’s More Than Coffee.”  This slogan, used to promote a student-run enterprise known as Student Perks, rings true for those who instituted a work skills opportunity that began percolating four years ago in the St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) Exceptional Student Education (ESE) program.
