FPCHS Celebrates Scholar Athlete

Congratulations to Fort Pierce Central High School Senior Laura Haggerty!  Laura was honored on Senior Day for her academic and athletic accomplishments.  With 4 Years Varsity Soccer and 3 Years Varsity Tennis, Laura will graduate this May from FPCHS with a 5.58 weighted GPA, and 3.98 unweighted GPA.  She will also graduate from IRSC with her AA degree on May 2, 2019.  Laura plans to attend the University of Florida in the fall to study engineering.  Congrats Laura!  Once a Cobra, Always a Cobra!

St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office Hosts Annual Beeping Easter Egg Hunt

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office bomb disposal team on Thursday, April 18, 2019 hosted their annual Beeping Easter Egg Hunt.  The event took place place at Westside Church in Fort Pierce. The Beeping Easter Egg Hunt is hosted each year for visually impaired students in the St. Lucie School District and features plastic eggs that beep, assembled by the bomb disposal team.  The students and adults all have a wonderful time finding the beeping eggs!

Samuel Gaines Academy Fundraiser for March of Dimes

The students of Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies were excited to raise money to benefit the March of Dimes.  Students were asked to make donations and they were able to choose a bucket in which to place their donations. Each bucket represented a different administrator on campus.  The administrators’ buckets with the most money received a pie in the face!  Students could also purchase raffle tickets to be chosen as a pie thrower.  Thank you to everyone at SGAET who donated to this worthy cause!

Ensure Your Vote Counts

Registered voters recently received a mail-in ballot.  To ensure your vote counts, it must be mailed by this Friday — April 19th.   This referendum supports teacher pay, safety on our campuses, and mental health services for our children.

St. Lucie County Firefighters Visit FPCHS

The St. Lucie County Fire District brought firefighters and fire trucks to visit a class at Fort Pierce Central High School.  The students spent the afternoon learning about fire safety, finding out what it takes to be a firefighter, and exploring a fire truck.  Thank you to SLCFD for making the visit so enjoyable for our students!

Environmental Studies Expo

On Saturday, May 4, Village Green Environmental Studies School will host a community Environmental Studies Exposition.  From 10AM to noon, students will serve as tour guides for guests and will provide information about the school’s permaculture garden, raised bed gardens, astronomy night activities, solar energy kits, and weather stations.  

2nd Annual Culinary Cook-Off

The 2nd Annual Student Culinary Cook-Off is a collaboration between Child Nutrition Services and the Career and Technical Education Culinary Arts Program. The purpose of the event is to provide student chefs with the opportunity to create and showcase enticing entrees that their peers would enjoy while following the USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch Program. This year’s champion team is St. Lucie West Centennial High School.  Their winning entree, Braised BBQ Pork Flatbread, will be placed on the school lunch menu for the 2019-2020 school year.

CAST Teacher Among Elite Group to Attend Geosciences Camp

FORT PIERCE, FL – Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie’s (CAST) eighth grade science teacher, Aaron Barnes, was selected to represent CAST at Texas A & M University’s G-Camp through their College of Geosciences. The acceptance into this program is an extreme honor as only 50 teachers in the United States are chosen for this opportunity. G-Camp is a 20-day field camp for teachers that provides first-hand experience with the principles of geology in the field.
